Oil change interval?

I got my 09 M3 about for about 6 months ago with 11,500 on the clock. It now has around 18,200 and it says the next oil change is due in 8,000 miles.

My question is should I wait that long, or should I do an oil change myself soon?

Thanks

Most dealerships will do a courtesy oil change at 12 months. Ultimately it's up to you. I think 5 - 8k miles depending on oil and driving habits is preferred.

I would do one. You don't know how long ago did the previous owner change the oil last. Anyways, 7k miles is more than I would let it run to before a change. I change at 10,000km tops.

Agree with the above members... but it also depends on your driving style and if you track the car. Personally, I change the oil after every track session or 10,000km.

I change the oil in my car every 7,500mi. I'm keeping my car for a long while.

+1. The computer and Ultimate Service call for an oil change every 15K (and an ADDITIONAL change after one year if you hit that milestone before your mileage milestone), but Mike Miller's Old School BMW Maintenance Schedule calls for a 7500-mile interval. I think 5K is too often since that's a common non-synthetic change interval, and synthetic oil can legitimately be used longer -- plus using 7500 means you just pay for every other change while under Ultimate Service and ask the techs not to reset the computer.

Don't even think twice about it. Change the oil at 7500 mile interval. Takes no time to do and doesn't cost that much. Take care of the engine, and it'll take care of you.

+1 although I driven 7500 miles since the initial 1200 mile service - that's the plan I use across the board. Ironically, enough the MINI has computer calculated oil change intervals of 6000 miles.
