P40 Setup?

Ok so I'm set on going with the HRE P40's but need help with the setup. I see people using a bunch of different numbers. I'm not looking for performance. What will give me:

The biggest wheel diameter
The closest offset to match the wheelwell
No rubbing with a near max turn

Also my M3 is black so on a side note I was thinking of going with the high gloss black finish or perhaps the matte or go with a graphite. Any thoughts? To each his own I know but perhaps from people that have seen such a setup of black on black. Everything else is "blacked" out on the car.

I have the Eibach Pro-Kit Springs.

I've done quite a bit of research on this and have gotten great feedback from both members and vendors. I sent you a PM with my findings along with the setup that I'll be going with.

Thanks again 305M3 for the detailed PM. FYI I am running Eibach Pro-Kit Springs. Does your recommended setup of:

(F) 20x9 - +19 et
(R) 20x10.5 - +23 et
(F) 255/30/20
(R) 295/25/20

Work with my springs. I'm sorry to rely on the help of others but honestly I just don't know.

If you don't mind let me know what color you decide to go with. (Gloss, Matte or Graphite) as I am in the same boat. Thanks

It should based on my calculations. I took into consideration the setup that BobMG is running as well as Ca$hOnly. Got some great advice from OMID INC as well as Nate over at IND. I can't thank them enough! I'll use BobMGs setup as an example and you can follow the link below for more info on his setup.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...&highlight=bob

HRE P40s - standard offset as recommended by HRE
(F) 20x9 et 28
(R) 20x10.5 et28

Add the wheel spacers 10mm front/5mm rear and that makes the setup:

(F) 20x9 et 18
(R) 20x10.5 et 23

He's also running Contis at 255/30/20 and 295/25/20, front and rear, respectively, with KW V3 Coil overs. I exchanged PMs with him the other day and he said he had a slight rub in the front when doing a full sharp turn. He raised the front by 8mm and has no rubbing whatsoever. I think the extra 1mm in the front by going +19 instead of +18 should take care of that.

Also, check out the setup by OMID INC. He's running 19s.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365939

And of course Ca$hOnly. He's sporting 305s on his M.

Will do for sure. I am leaning toward the high gloss black. Just looks so good. The matte is nice but the high gloss is amazing when on a bright colored car like red, white, blue, etc. Just not sure about black but if it looks good on them then why not on a black car.

Just worred that it will look like darth vader but perhaps that isn't a bad thing. Everything else on the car is blacked out. Even the reverse lights.

Now that I'm wondering what is the stock offset for the M3 wheels?

After looking at OMID INC's setup. I think I'm set on +23 rear or +22 since he's doing +22 but on the front +22 (OMID INC) just isn't out far enough IMO. I'm worried that if I go +19 on the front will I rub any? Perhaps I should go +20 to be safe?

+22 rear/+20 front should work just fine and not be as aggressive as +18/+19. Below is the sticky for the OEM wheels and offsets.

+22 sits really nice in the front and the rear for me.

If you want to go more aggressive in the front like a +20 or +18/+19, just be careful of the tire size in relation to the width of the wheel.

i have a 255 tire on 9.0 in front. a 255 on a 9.5 would look a little more stretched.

a 265 on a 9.0 in front wheel would look a little more squared and more prone to rubbing.

suspension also plays a huge role; if you are lowered then rubbing issues would be more likely, if on stock then not as much.

i am assuming you want to remain within 1%-2% of the rolling diameter of the OEM wheels and tires so the aspect ratio should remain a constant.

+22 Rear and +20 Front should be about right for a completely flush fitment.

We've done a few sets of P40s for customers in the past. Feel free to shoot over a PM if you're having trouble with fitments especially if you have a BBK setup you're planning or if you're dropped.

ET19 front and 23 rears!!

I have effective 18 on front and the rubbing has gone after raising suspension.

19 will be 100% perfect.

Thank you for all the replies! Keep in mind please I have the Eibach Pro-Kit Springs.

So will +20 front and +22 rear work?

Perfect. If you want a wider rear like 305 I would feel safer with 23 rear.
Also I have Contis which are narrower then Michelin and Pirellis.

Couldn't agree with this more. +23 for a 305 and +22 for 285 maybe 295.

So I got a quote back from a set of 4 P40's (Black High Gloss) for $5400.

20x9 +20 Front
20x10.5 +22 Rear

That's $1350 a wheel. Seems like a good deal with me. Thoughts?

Considering that the P40 wheel lists for $1,500 / each for a 20" setup, that's a fair deal I would say.

I'd say yes. OMID INC is running +22 all around and the +20 in the front is just a small difference.

It's a great price. Keep in mind that you can always work with the vendor to get a package deal with TPMS and tires included. Usually works out better than buying everything piece meal.

you actually don't ahve to run spacers.
we can get custom offset (lowest is 18) for the HRE P40 set up.

the most common "most flush without fender work" that we like to do is the et22 all around. but also, on this set up, we run the 255/30 and 285/30 tire combinations. some of the 295/25 will work as well.

feel free to PM/email me for more information.

There's really no "fender work" to do on an E9X M3 since there's nothing to roll like on the other BMWs.

HRE Wheels had originally recommended a slightly less aggressive fitment for the P40 Monoblock wheel so that owners can have wide variety of tire choices including competition race tires which have a much more aggressive tread block design and widths than standard street tires.

I checked with an HRE wheel engineer and they confirmed that 20x9.0 ET20 (Front) and 20x10.5 ET22 (Rear) will work with no issues even with the OP's Eibach Pro-Kit which lowers the vehicle approximately 0.8" in front and 0.6" in the back.
