5.0's are fast :(

so we had a group of us go to Nring, and we decided to play on the abahn (no cars around). My buddy has the new 5.0 mustang with exhaust, intake and a chip. He says it's about 480hp. We did like 80-140ish pull. I took the 3rd gear and got away about a car lengh, and that's it... from 110 to about 140 he was pretty much in the same place behind me.... once again, I expected to beat him a lot more than that... maybe i'm having a boost leak??

For the price, they're hard to beat.

I have an '06 supercharged Saleen with a shaker at about 550hp and while I haven't had them driven side by side I'd say it is fairly close to my '12 stock e92 m3 dct. If your car is supercharged I would think it to be a helluva lot faster than a n/a 5.0, guess not!

I presume you should be running about 6 to 7 PSI. Does your boost gauge read any different?

This could be possible. I had the opportunity to run a 5.0 with the exact mods as the one you ran, at a Shift-S3ctor side-by-side roll-on event. The owner of the 5.0 showed me a dyno sheet of it making 451 RWHP, so I was impressed at the delta from a stock 5.0 which I'm assuming is maybe 350-375 RWHP. Your ESS 575 makes what, around 500 RWHP?

unless we are seriously underestimating a bolt on 5.0, I feel that your 575 kit should have beat him more than that, looking at gearing, weight and hp at indicated speed. I know the 5.0 has more torque but this was from a roll. Love the looks and performance of the 5.0 especially for the price, Ford did a good jod this time around

as said your SC m3 should have put the hurt on the 5.0, a bolt on 5.0 does not make anywhere close to 500whp.

Why? See my post above. I ran the 451 RWHP 5.0 with my 335i with only a DCI, tune, meth and dps which at the time made only 16 psi and around 400 RWHP but still managed to creep slowly on the 5.0.

The density altitude was high that day (around 80 degrees at Big Willow which is 2,300 ft above sea level) so the turbos certainly helped me on this run.

I was really close to pulling the trigger on a 5.0/BOSS but upon reading on their Chinese made manual transmission with lots of horrible stories I looked elsewhere. Lots of owners complain of broken transmissions and AFAIK there isn't a solution from Ford yet, hopefully somebody can prove me wrong.

It really is too bad as at the time I was massively itching for a v8 RWD manual coupe that is affordable and can be easily modified. The Coyote engine is awesome but without a reliable transmission to put that power to the ground (and auto wasn't an option for me) it was a major deal breaker.

Except of course forced induction, which has exactly that effect, and it's what the OP has.
