That gave me a good laugh this morning. That IPE setup is sinister.

Lol...but I'd be interested to hear a OEM to OEM comparison.

But...an M3/4 shouldn't smile!

Hilarious!

I noticed none of the New M3/M4's had any section of the video where the the S55 "farted". Not a very flattering sound.

Meh, it is still no M4

I'll take an occassional fart (which can be fixed with an exhaust upgrade) to have a shit load of power, capable chassis with a unitized subframe and a crap load of other improvements. People need to get off their high horse with this sound nonsense.

IMO they are kind of not comparable stock. because different ideology went into them.

they made the F80 with a louder muffler because the turbo engine makes less noise. the E90 was made with a quieter muffler because the engine induction was loud enough.

Don't get me wrong...I think the M3/4 will outperform the E9X in every way. I'd love to buy one but I'm not willing to give up my E90 M3 for it.

But there will always be the anti-F8X crowd. There's still plenty of E46 guys that are anti-E9X!

I guess you are never going to get one happy BMW family. It’s just a bit pathetic, people’s only gripe is sound yet no one says boo about the 52 other things that are BETTER about the M4.

Lol...that's a pretty far off dream! The interior is WAY better! I like my F30 328i interior. I think it improves upon the E90 interior AND it has some usable cup holders! Never mind this car is 1000 lbs lighter than some of its direct competitors with souped up sport sedans. The one thing about the F8X I don't like is the front end. M cars shouldn't smile. But I didn't like the E9X M3 mirrors at first either.

To many, the F8X is a significant departure from the perceived norm for the M brand with turbocharging. I believe that there is no "normal" for M...that's that makes the M division special.

People don't "need" to do anything. If someone finds sound important, so be it. If you find speed to trump that, so be it.

Lots of people still running around in older Ferrari's because of the way they feel. They could care less that a V6 Accord is faster.

Video doesn't go justice for the S55 sounds, it really doesn't sound this "boxy/buzzy/tinny" in person. In person, it actually has a 3D-like sound to it, there is a lower frequency i-6 growl, overlayed with a medium pitched "BRRR", and some sort of turbo turbine whistle. Does it have some USDM-header S54 qualities to the exhaust? Yes, but only the "BRRRR" portion.

That being said, it's no S65 with it's higher pitched, almost epic V8 howl. It's a rarity to have such a high pitched howl from V8 that isn't a flat crank V8, so BMW did something great with the S65.

I don't think the IPE exhaust was the appropriate choice in this video...very raspy sounding due to the poor microphone that was recording. I think there are better IPE videos on youtube.

This recording is a much better comparision to the M4, to hear how much better the V8 sounds:

at 70k i refuse to settle.

i would rather have a great sound and power, chassis etc. Not talking about the E92 either. i am referring to other cars coming to the market. like the next CTS-V with the Z06 engine...... you can have a fart M4 or a S/C v8.....

my mother has a full loaded 335i F30. i prefer my E92 interior more. Even my friends say the same thing. they love the built in nav screen a lot more also.

Barely one year out of production, and the E90 experience is already being missed. Turner Motorsports recently said that their LR E92 M3 fitted with stock cats and the MPE in their opinion was "the best sounding BMW ever made". People can poop on the E90 all they want, but fact of the matter is it was an extremely special vehicle that will never be replicated. For best of breed racing teams teams to be signing its laurels, detractors' opinions are pretty much irrelevant.

Oh I will definitely be going for an M4. Just give the aftermarket some time and the farting will be a thing of the past.

SC an engine that already is marginal in an NA configuration? (i.e., rod bearings)…no thanks.
