Front PDC Retrofit

I was thinking about getting a Euro front bumper. If I get it with PDC, other than having it coded at a dealer, is there anything else I need to make it work or is as simple as that?

Well, that depends if our cars are prewired for it or not; I doubt it. And even if they are, you're talking over 2 grand for the bumper, you'd need the switch for the console as well (rear is activated by reverse; front by a button next to the driver's heated seat), and the coding.

Too darn expensive, even if prewired. If not prewired, just forget about it .

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking about it because I have a way of getting a REALLY good deal on the bumper. I can't imagine the switch is very much trouble. Does anyone know if our cars are prewired for it?

No, and you can't program it to work on US-spec cars either.

if what you're really for is to find something to help you park in tight spaces, it's probably cheaper to look at doba_s' kit

I'm not 100% sure if this is true, we have coding abilities for front PDC.

Finding someone to shell out the dough for a new bumper and PDC sensors is a whole different story. It's not cheap.

My shop looked into this for me when I first bought my M3 in 1/09. At that time, we looked and looked and we couldn't find the coding for US spec cars for front PDC. This might eventually change because the regular facelifted E92 will get front PDCs.

Tom - Can you confirm for sure that you could code for this? For me, as long as things don't change, I have access to a bumper for such a cheap price that it would be a no brainer as long as I could get it coded.

Can't confirm since it was never a US option, but would be willing to give it a try. Give me a call or PM to arrange an appointment.

The car is a 2011 on order so I won't have it until mid-April. The bumper is only going to cost me a few hundred dollars since a friend of mine works at a dealer's parts department and wants to trade electronics gear for it. I don't mind buying it and having it painted, I'm just trying to avoid spending the money and going through the process only to find out at the very end that it couldn't be coded. Once I get the car, is there any way you can check it out to see if it could be coded before I buy it? Or would I actually have to have the PDC bumper installed?

I will need to either have the pieces preinstalled or installed at our facility in order for coding to take place.

Hopefully, we will already have performed another coding session for front PDC before then and can determine if this is a possibility or not on US vehicles.
