Silverstone leather feedback
Guys,
I'm going to order a new M3 with silverstone merino leather and I'm a bit worried about maintaining this type of leather. Can any of you who have used similar color in your M3s for a few years comment on this? It's pictures like these that worry me : http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...1&d=1391551585 The picture above is from a new F80 M3 in a european dealership. The car is brand new, granted many people probably sat on it, but its not like its a few years old. My fox red interior still does not look this way after using it for 3 years and I had to condition it or clean it 0 times, I mean that, zero, nada, zip. I picked up the keys 3 years ago, and I sat on my leather seats with my dirty jeans, changed my daughter's diapers in the back seat, sat on the seats with wet swim suits and sand on my pockets, god knows what else, and these seats still look as good as the first day I bought them (except the driver's seat is a bit wrinkled but thats fine). The car is going to be a lease, and I dont want to worry about cleaning this leather. If my kid steps on it with her shoes, will it leave permanent scuff marks? Will they turn black easily? |

Well, if you're careless getting in and out, those side bolsters would wear out on the E9x, too.
I only sat in an F80 about 15 minutes, but the new leather seemed sturdier (not as buttery smooth and soft and prone to creases). |

You may think your fox red leather looks new but it doesn't. I was far more careful than you seem to be and was amazed at the change when I cleaned the seats. Black is always best for staining durability. I have had light gray seats in the past (not on an M3) and they were harder to keep looking clean than fox red.

I bought my M3 used and the one thing that it has that I'm not exactly keen on is the light silver interior. I'm assuming it's silverstone (it's an 08). Unfortunately, the previous owner had kids, I have a kid, and the leather is a bit worse for the wear. Almost every person who gets in my car thinks I'm crazy but I'm uber-anal about my cars and the tiny scuffs, etc. drive me crazy.
My last car (Porsche 911S) had a full red leather interior with sport bucket seats and never had the issues this car does. Black will be the easiest to care for. If you like the color, do it. Just don't be suprised if you have to put a little extra effort into keeping it perfect. |

Lighter leather shows dirt and color transfer more easily, yes. Unless you plan to be anal about cleaning and caring for it, stick with a darker color.

Damn you guys must be wearing some shitty jeans. I've never had this problem in e60 or x5m. I have always worn nice denim and never had a problem.

If they are cheap jeans they don't set the DYE properly sometimes. If you take the new jeans wash them in cold water that helps. If they are still bleeding use vinegar to set the dye and soak in the wash. If that doesn't work use salt. Like I said this only in cheap jeans. I always spend more on jeans cause quality In good jeans last and don't bleed AG, Diesel 7even
