Dealer says he does not know ship information

Is this possible?

Here's the question I sent him over email:

"What is the name of the ship that it is on? I would like to
track it across the Atlantic."

He says: "We do not have that info."

I already have a VIN/Production# and the status says "En route to US"

Is there any way I can get this information?

Thanks
- cacofonix.

Yes, that thread can help if your car is on a Wallenius Wilhelmsen ship because you can search by VIN. But BMW uses other shippers as well and there is no way to look up VINs to find out which ship you are on. The bottom line is the dealer/SA is lazy/uninformed/lying to the OP. The information is available to the dealer, or at least was back in late 2010 when I ordered my car. My SA provided the name of the ship, departure date from Germany, port of arrival here in the US and expected arrival date as soon as it was available to him.

I have bought 4 BMWs from my dealer and in all 4 cases he has provided me the ship's name and shipping line. Keep trying. Good luck.

My CA emailed my carrier info to me on Tuesday. They should have this info for you.

Hmm, my dealer was able to give me the name of the ship that was ferrying my car, which was helpful because it wasn't a Wallenius boat. Maybe it hasn't been posted in their system yet, but they definitely have access to it once the data is populated.

^^ If the online system with its well known delays is already showing Enroute, the car is on a boat and the system should have it by now...

Dealer should have the name of the ship... or at least the port it's shipping from. Then you can check the port and see which ships are leaving there. This link also has a bunch of information that helped me figure out which ship my car was on and when it was leaving...

He lying
I don't see why he should be doing this considering that there is no monetary incentive in doing so. I think he's being honest - maybe not trying hard enough.

Agreed, either he's not trying hard enough or he's like so many other folks at BMW dealerships who simply don't know! How many stories have we heard about service advisers telling comfort access owners to plug their key into the dash to charge. They simply are not educated or are too lazy to find out for themselves...
