Glad you are okay man - it is a good reminder to all of us to keep it safe out there.
Live and learn, and just be thankful that your lesson didn't come at the expense of anyone else.

Very humbling to see what happens when things go terribly wrong...
Glad you could walk way from that. You should contact BMW Magazine to have your story featured under their How BMW Saved My Life section. |

Wow, incredible that you walked away w/out a scratch. I am glad you are okay!
About 15 or so years ago - I had gotten my first "nice" car and I had a similar incident. I had taken a corner too hard and lost it and part of my car ended up on a tree! I am sure it was a funny sight for the onlookers (half the car was suspended on top of a small tree) - but it shook me for sure. From then on, I had a new-found respect for fast cars and the road. I felt as you did and was thankful it wasn't worse than it was. These things happen. Sometimes it's our fault and other times it can't be helped, but in the end, like others have said, cars are replaceable....life is not. As unfortunate as this is, use it as an expensive lesson. I hope everything works out good for you and again, glad you're ok. |

The car actually fared pretty well considering the thickness of that telephone pole. Damn these things are tough. Lots of parts to be salvaged there.
Glad you are ok.

Thanks for sharing and don't worry.. I know when you look back it must just seem impossible that everything worked against you for the worst outcome.. but strangely enough these things do happen. An excellent reminder to us all that sometimes it is truly unavoidable.
Try not to stress too much! There is a reason we all have insurance, right?

I am sorry for your loss, but glad u are ok. Looks like u understeered into the pole? Perhaps taking too much speed into the bend?

Glad youre OK OP. Don't be too harsh on yourself, i would guess that most people on this forum drive their M3 in a spirited manner from time to time - that is the whole point of the car and even the best and most experienced drivers can crash in the blink of an eye.....oil/ wet leaves mid corner, an animal moving onto the road or even a 50 foot pole that was difficult to see ().
Live and learn and enjoy your new car. I would also be careful about how much information you post on the forum until the insurance has been settled.

Well.....we have all done stupid shit in our lives. I am no exception. Once, back in my college days, we had a fraternity car chase through the streets of a major city. Lucky I wasn't dead or in jail. Craziest and second dumbest thing I ever did. Still makes for a good story over beers with the guys, however. Sometimes life is just about dumb luck, both good and bad.
Anyway, just curious....did you have the DSC on or off?

As witness to this accident, I appreciate the shout out buddy. You're alive and that's what counts. You do owe me dinner for keeping me in the canyons freezing my buns off waiting for the tow truck and perhaps a car wash
As noted, no one got hurt. We all live and learn. Now let's start putting some e93 parts into my e46 :-D |

dude, it's all good. At least you're ok, that's the main thing. We all do/have done dumb shit with our cars. Most of the time we're lucky, sometimes we aren't. Simple as that. hope to hear you'll be back in an M3 soon.
I noticed both of you had verts with the top down, I can't lie with my e46 vert i use to love ripping through any and every street i had a chance to with the top down. Get another vert, do some tracking and enjoy it once again! |

You showed that telephone pole what's what.
Did you have DSC turned off, by the way?

Like others have said, the biggest thing is you're ok. We are human and we make mistakes. After writing that post and owning up to yours, there should not be any "flaming" going on here!!
Like my instructor said at Bondurant, people don't run out of track, they run out of skill. You can improve your skill and you can replace the car. Live and learn. Bottom line is you screwed up but you are owning up to it and committing yourself to getting better. You are learning from it. The flaming would come if you were just blowing it off and not learning anything. We all make mistakes, what defines us is what we do about it. So... apology cheerfully accepted. Glad you're ok. Go get another BMW, take some courses and move on! |

OP, I am glad you are okay. I think you have learned your lesson and you should get another V8 M3 until you can.
Good luck.
