if you want a merc, why not spend half the money and get a c63 amg. back seats, looks almost as good, same damn engine, better transmission, newer with better tech, same damn exaust note?

unless bragging right is your thing, there is no point to spend double for practically less car.

Its luxurious, comfortable, and has everything you would want in a great GT car from handling to responsiveness and my god the sounds that come from it!
For the price, I dont see much out there that is as put together for a strict GT car. I would say the closest car to a rival to the clk63 bs is the m6, but still the m v10 doesnt sound good until you spend money on a full exhaust (and even then cant compare to a CGT or lambo v10), doesnt look nearly as good no matter how hard you try, and has a better interior as well.
Thanks Greg. All the reviews I have heard from current and past owners is overwhelmingly positive with the only real complaint being that it does not come in manual.

I think the M6 looks much better in person but isn't a car I'd call "pretty" by any stretch of the imagination.

Sub Zero -- the Mas Gran Turismo is simply beautiful, I do agree. I would just worry about the cost of ownership with the Ferrari engine, etc.

the point of owning the car IS bragging rights.

I see many m6s everyday and they simply dont impress the way a clk 63 black does.
OT: Was on 95 the other day going past Greenwich and in the terrential downpour a guy got onto the highway right next to me in a gorgeous SL 65 AMG Black Series. Talk about a car! His weekend car I would imagine is a CGT or Enzo...haha.
Agree 100% on the M6.

Believe it or not......the SL65 AMG BS is one of my select few dream cars. The only one I've seen close up in person is Alex Ovechkin's. Simply fantastic.

The Great Falls meet is supposed to be one of the best around. Old and modern Ferrari's, classic and modern Porsche's, AMG's, Lambos, Aston Martins, Vipers, Vettes, M Cars, GT-R's, etc.

I'm about 45 minutes away but it's so damn early in the morning..need to get out there in the spring.

A simple review of both your post history and mine would easily answer that question. I owned an E46 M3 before my C63. I also had two X5 4.6is before that. Furthermore I also had a deposit down on an E92 M3 back in Dec 06 waiting and lurking this site for the car to be revealed. However as faith would have it I got something else. This is the first Mercedes I ever had. I understand you have your own opinion I was just pointing out how one-sided it seems to always be.

I'd just ignore the fanboys. There's no way to rationally discuss a topic with someone who is blinded by zealous devotions. Just let them scream and yell until they wear themselves out.
Btw, have you driven your car in the snow? I'm curious about AMGs with/with out snow tires.

True.

Unfortunately once, I got caught in a snow storm but luckily was close to work so I had a place to leave the C63. My car has Michelin PS2's on it which I'm sure everyone knows is like driving with a death wish in snow. Again this is when my car was stock. I was able to get a ride from my brother who has a 2004 S4 which was the first year of the V8 platform. That can is an absolute TANK in the snow even with all-season tires.

i hope you can point out because I don't recall ever saying the m3 is god. as you know, i love the c6 z06 right and i would take it over the m3. it's a american POS as most here put it, what does that say about me? hehe

it's not just me. every auto journalists seems to be one sided too. have you read any rs5, ctsv, m3 comparison lately. or how bout go back and read rs4 vs m3 vs c63 amg vs isf review by any mag tests. .

You'll see a c63 on the road, that's why.

A BS is never seen which makes it worth every penny.

It's rare, and it's presence is unmistakeable.

No one sees a bs and says "oh look, it's another bs"
They say "oh fuck it's a black"

The CLK Black is my favorite Merc in production right now. I would take one over an M3 in a heartbeat.

HaHa.
I drove my e46 in the lightest of snow a couple of times with PS2s on it. Death wish nails it about as accurately as I could put it. My e90 with Michelin Alpins has been a joy. I look forward to the snow. AWD is great in the snow (had a few Audis), but I think the biggest improvement comes from having good winter tires.

Sorry for the thread jack.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but to the average person any Black Series short of the SL65 Black is just another shiny Benz. The CLK63 probably looks like a riced-out Benz to the average guy/gal.

Just like the M3 is just another 3 series.

I never buy a car for presence or status and don't give a rat's ass about other people's admiring glances. I simply don't get people who care about these things.

CLK Black comes from factory with Perellis Zero and those things are terrible on wet and light snow. I guess it's the trade off for performance in the dry. the PS2 are pretty good in the rain though.

I take it back, I test drove the BS today and its crap on toast compared to the DCT M3

Gear changes are slow as hell but it does have some grunt though.
Chassis is stiffer and heavier than the M even with KW coil overs, steering feels heavy, just shit, and worst of all ESS cant supercharge it.

Compared to my ESS VT2 600 M3 there is no comparison.

They have a 2005 DTM with 1800 miles on it to test drive this week. Will let you all know how that compares.

I think X6M is where I'm going, my M3 goes to its new owner next week, so the decision time is near

I saw a CLK63 AMG the other day in black just like in the picture. Driven by a blonde in the right lane doing the speed limit. Beautiful car and the girl too, shame it's sort of wasted.

Your complaint is that the Black is sluggish and you're going with an X6M?
You must need the room because the X6M is an incredibly lazy shifter (and a lot slower than the Mercedes).

How could this ever be a determining factor? Its clear you were not satisfied with the power output of your car that you needed to spend tens of thousands of dollars to improve it because basic bolt on mods couldn't accomplish that.

Maybe you need to reevaluate your criteria for shopping for a new car?
