You can't do all that work and put those wheels back on. That would drive me nuts.

i wish i didn't have to, but new set of wheels was never in the budget for me to begin with. fortunately, the Axis Pentas i'm supposed to be getting are literally being given to me...it just turns out that i'll have to wait a while to get them. so in the mean time i'm going to have to stick with the wheels i have...they'll look good repainted and with some spacers.

i'm gonna have to change my sig pic pretty soon . what's funny is that there is another build thread going on at Supraforums.com where a gentleman, also in the Sarasota, FL area, had wrecked his red Supra. so he pulled the motor & tranny and bought an Anthracite MKIV shell...so we both have Anthracite Supra projects going on, and yet we both still have red Supras in our sigs LOL.

UPDATE:

well i know i said that the motor would be in early last week, but as usual, there are always set backs. this time it was just getting a few people there at one time so that we could get the motor back in...well it finally happened tonight. we didn't have a cherry picker, so we used the lift to hold the motor, rolled the car into place below it, and lowered the motor in slowly:

...bolted up the drive shaft, and got the tranny and motor mounts in place. as you can see, i still gotta run the portion of the harness that comes off the motor. but i figure the car will be running by the end of the week. i suspect at this point that the only things that might keep me from finishing the whole project by the end of the week would be getting my hood back, getting the side skirts installed, and getting some pieces of glass installed. but i'll be in touch w/ Paul to coordinate all of that.

Looks great! The only thing I would change is 98 headlights over the Euro glass ones or you could just paint the euro glass ones to match the 98s.

yeah everyone loves the 97-98 headlights. i myself am impartial - i can't honestly say that the 97-98 headlights are any better looking than the 93-96 headlights, or vice versa. one thing's for sure though - the beam pattern is MUCH nicer through the glass cover of the euro headlights than it is through the plastic covers of either the 93-96 or the 97-98 USDM headlights. i've contemplated painting the insides of the euro headlights black like the 97-98 USDM headlights, but disassembling and reassembling headlights is a risky business - one minor mistake and all sorts of humidity can get inside them and cloud them up. if i were crazy about that look, i might be willing to take a chance, but i'll probably just leave them be for now...

believe me, i wanted to. but for as long as the motor was out and sitting on the floor, i couldn't manage the time to get it done. i also wanted to pressure wash all the dirt and grease out from the underside of the car, but i didn't get a chance to do that either. that'll be another project down the road...its pretty stock-looking under the hood, so i don't pop it much anyways. as long as the car looks immaculate on the outside for now, i'll get to that other stuff soon enough...

Wow, great job. Don't know how I missed this thread, but I don't regret it, I did not have to wait.
I really like the Supra, it looks good and is for my needs/wishes nearly a perfect car: 2 seats but not convertible/roadster, RWD, MT, I6 (IMHO NA>FI).

thanks for the compliments. mine's a targa top, so while its a good deal more rigid than most convertibles/roadsters on the roads, its not quite as light or as rigid as the rare and highly sought after hard top Supras. it is nice to be able to pop the roof panel off whenever you like though...

I just dont know whether to get an auto and swap the 5 or 6 speed because they are like 10 grand cheaper. Or just spend it on a manual. All I know is that once I get one I'm getting CCW classics!!! (I know everyone has them but they look good enough for me not to care!)

starting with an auto may be the way to go if you can find one in good condition for $10k less than a 6-speed. but know that a V160 6-speed manual in good condition is going to cost you ~$5k. nevermind the 5-speed manual - it only came with non-turbo Supras, which means it won't handle the power of a turbo Supra for very long...especially once you go BPU and move into the 350-450whp range.

another thing to consider is to buy a non-turbo Supra, remove the 2JZ-GE and the W58 5-speed tranny, and swap in a 2JZ-GTE and V160 6-speed tranny as one. it may or may not be less expensive than buying a turbo auto and just swapping the tranny.

and i know what you mean about the wheels. CCW Classics are, well, classic on the MKIV Supra. no other car wears those wheels as well as the Supra i IMO.

You need a new sig lol and since you're in sarasota, maybe you can run against Blake's GTR when this is finished

LOL the only problem with that is that my project is purely cosmetic, and as far as performance goes, i'm still on the stock twin turbos. right now i'm making ~440whp, which is enough to put 3-4 carlengths on a stock GTR from ~60-120mph (ask me how i know ). that being said, i'm ~300whp shy of what Blake's GTR makes at the wheels, so it wouldn't even be a contest. if he wants to race me in his M3 i'm game, but that wouldn't be very fair for him .

I have to disagree. The right bpu setup with a bottle would easily give that GTR a run for his money. My bpu car put down 486rwhp with the tune not all the way worked out. I never put the car back on the dyno, but after getting the small rich spots tuned out I added a bottle to the car. It was probably my favorite mod to the car. On boost the car ran 11.1@123 and would've easily dipped into the high 10s@13x on the spray.
