Afe air filter = rattle, Active autowerke = ???
Anyone here using an active autowerke green replacement air filter?
I had an afe one previously, and got the documented (in these forums anyways) rattle around 3-4k RPM. Removed it and returned to stock, no more rattle. Was hoping the active autowerke didnt have this symptom. Anyone? Already ordered so... But hoping its a better product then the afe one. |

I don't use these foam filters anymore, but I always heard good things regarding the green filter and the resonance/rattle effect.

If that doesn't work for you I can vouch for the Macht Schnell: Comes with a special filter adapter that replaces the stock one over the spring. Fits like a glove, no rattle, and you can hear the engine even better!

I have the AA green filter and it fits in there tight. What rattle? Never heard it. There was an aluminum spacer that came with it, hmmm...

Not sure what rattle we are talking about. I did have the AFE filter though, and I guess the heat deformed it and it started not making a good seal at the elbow (you could see a gap). Ended up going with AA filter because the face is metal and won't deform. Happy I made the switch.

I have the AA filter and I get that rattle. I actually didn't know if that was normal or not, but after reading I guess it is.
I would prefer if it didn't do that because it takes away from the engine and induction noise but its not too bad.

Great, I just put on the Afe Dry filter and there's probably no reason to believe it is built any different than the oiled version. A bad seal is far worse than a rattle. I will keep close watch. Thanks. |

My Afe dry doesn't rattle either. I also wonder if people have the right filter as Afe has 2 different sizes depending on the year. Many of the other brands really just have 1 size filter but they come with an adapter to cover all model years.

Yep. One with a nipple and one sans nipple. I forget which years go with which.

I should expand a bit...
The AFE I had (have, stored away now...) is the one that comes with the elbow and filter. I think AFE makes an OEM drop in as well. The "rattle" that I had (until AFE removed) was between 3000-4000RPM under load. Many people mention it... Didnt like it. So I ordered the active autowerke as its a direct OEM drop in... Sounds like it might have the same symptom. And when I say "rattle"... Its a raspy sound... Those that have it (and sounds like some AA users above do...) know what I am talking about. We'll see... Hopefully the AA drop in I ordered wont have it... I didnt like the noise at all. It didnt sound right. |

My old K&N drop in had the slight rattle around a certain RPM. I don't believe it's the filter at all as it almost sounds more like a resonance. Either way it was fine.
