Go Pro housing

Finally bought a GoPro to use at the track to help with my learning and get some sweet vids for memories. I'm planning on mounting externally with my RAM suction cup mount and routing an external mic over the exhaust as others have described. The only problem is I can't hook up the mic with the provided GoPro cases as there is no hole. I'd rather not drill into the case as I may want the waterproof feature. The GoPro skeleton case looks like a good option for plugging in wires, but does anybody have experience with other third party vendors who make a track sturdy case to accomplish this task? Thanks.

Gopro stuff is relatively cheap compared to what I'm used to paying for camera stuff. Which is why I primarily use the Hero4 Black now. It captures 4k, which is more than good enough for any amateur production clip.

Spent tens of thousands on a performance car. Might as well spend an extra 20 bucks or so for a gopro housing that can record clips

I have some cheap $6 skeleton (rubberized plastic) that works just fine.

As SheaButter above posted, you need the GoPro skeleton case. I have one and it works just fine; I use blue painters tape to secure the wiring for the mic. Enabled me to record this:

Video didn't work! Thanks for the advice. I'll spend the $50 and get the skeleton case.

Yeah...like others stated, you'll need a skeleton case. Here's my setup I did recently using the skeleton case, suction cups and an external mic:

What external mics are you guys using? I've been running my camera inside, but the gopro overheats during a long session and shuts off. With it outside, I'm sure it won't be the case. Just need to find one long enough and one that works well to run it to my exhaust.

The one I'm using in the video above is an Edutige ETM-008 Uni-Directional Microphone and windscreen. Decided on the uni-directional mic opposed to an omni-directional because I didn't want a mic that was too sensitive and will pickup too much unwanted backround noise. Uni-directionals only pickup sound directly in front of the mic.

You should consider getting a digital sound recorder. I have a Tascam DR-40. IMO it's the best value but there's also Zoom H1 or H4N. The built in mic is great but make sure you get a Don King wig to get rid of most wind noise. Mount to the back trunk or inside the car with a Fat Gecko mount. Or you can run up to two external mics, one to engine bay and one out back for most accurate sound reproduction.

Per the video I posted above, it's an Audio-Technica ATR-3350.

Very nice set up. What tether is that attached to your outside mount?

Really nice sound man. I think the mic over the exhaust works pretty well.

Thanks dude. It's a strap that came with a GoPro selfie stick I bought. I used it to keep the mount more stable and most important, if the suction cups fail I'll still have my GoPro and accessories. lol

Thanks. Everyone who has watched the video has loved the sound and it convinced me not to bother with an aftermarket exhaust -- sounds so exotic already.

I experimented with different placements but there was very little difference. In the end I just taped it to the top of the bumper, parallel with the ground.

I love watching your Nav adjust to the changing "direction of travel" with every steering wheel input!

Okay so here is my set up. Nothing fancy like FNG suggested. Just the MOVO GM300 Lavalier mic mounted over the bumper ($25 on amazon with GoPro adaptor already integrated). I might try in the trunk for less wind noise at higher speeds. Decent but traction controlled pace coming back - literally had some sort of Hyundai on my tail trying to catch me so no lectures. People are crazy out here.
