You forget the hood is aluminum? You can't bend aluminum back like steel. There is a risk it can crack. That's a replace job all day

It's a long shot, but if there are stores or a petrol station nearby, you might be able to get some video of the perpetrator. I would at least try since the person is a leave-the-scene-of-an-accident kind of douche.
Sorry Parrots - good luck.

Hopefully you were legally parked. A good proportion of parking fender bender happen when someone parks illegally ending up in the blind sport of some car backing out and turning. Some insurances consider it a 50% 50% responsibility.

Looks like a truck or something with a high bumper backed into you.
If you have to pay for the repair yourself then I would pick a genuine used front bumper off ebay and get it repainted - would save you £££. If the bonnet shut lines are unaffected then you should be able to get it repaired. |

Sorry to hear OP, it is my worst fears realized parellel parking for only 10 mins! looks as if a truck with a high bumper of some kind slowly backed up and crunched the front.

I watched this lady back into a car with her oversize monstrosity of a SUV - rocked this poor little compact something awful with the impact. big front end damage. she took off. I was yelling and waving at her to stop. she didn't. so my wife and I jumped in the M3 and took off after her. about a mile up we caught up to her. so, my wife stands up (lolvert) and starts snapping pics. we got pics of the color scrape on the bumper - license plate - driver... it was fun.
drove back, called the cops. the police called us back later saying they ran her down and took care of it. the owner was a poor college student - she was very happy as she had just basic coverage on her insurance and didn't think it would have been covered. turned out to be a pretty exciting date night. best of luck with the car. that does suck. |

Sorry about your luck, here in USA, this would cost about 2700 USD to fix, assuming you don't have to order new bumper or hood, and all defects could be molded.

I have found a scrap yard that has both the bumper and hood in the same colour as my car with no defects so wondering if i should get this or go for new parts and have them sprayed to match the car.

Have you ever lived or traveled to Mexico? I wouldn't own a car like this down there.
OP... Sorry to see this. This blows.

OEM non-painted front bumper is $500 and $200 to paint. I can do my own install. Where the hell do you come up with an additional $1000+?

I would get a bodyshop estimate to repair your existing bonnet (hood for those who don't proper speak yer actual proper English) and see what it comes out at and how it compares to having the scrappy one....the bodyshop will need to be told that its Aluminium (Aluminum ) if they didn't already know. Naturally both parts will need repainting by the same shop at the same time....unless they are in perfect nick. Last edited by SenorFunkyPants; 07-14-2013 at 06:20 AM.. |
