Previous E9x M3 Owner
So i am about to sell my M3 and i am having doubts on selling it...
I would sell it and get another but i babied this car like a sickness.... so if i decide to buy another M3 i might end up getting a beat up one... unless i go for a new one but highly doubt since a new m3 will be out in couple years... and believe it or not i have never seen how the red light feels like... HERE IS THE REASON WHY IM SELLING THE CAR... i drive 65 miles one way home to work so a total of 130 miles a day and $600 a month on gas or sometimes more... i am in the process of getting a better MPG and i know what i need to get... i was going to get and store this car but for being an 08 it might not be a good idea...i dont know... so for those owner who sold your M3 what happen... what did you do how did you feel and what did you get... i know for some its just a car... but this is probably the hardest car i have to let go... i still cant get over it.. and to think i still have it... If you can have a beater and keep the M, I say go for it.

What's your reason for selling it? The reasoning is hard to decipher from your post.
You mention gas money and MPG, so I am assuming you want a better car for fuel efficiency, yet you mention you might decide to get another M3? That doesn't make sense. If you can afford it, perhaps get a second car to drive around in? A hoopty? Do you own the M3 outright? Just take into consideration the cost of selling and buying another vehicle so you don't make a mistake. Good luck with whatever you decide! |

i've been in a situation in my last car where I commuted so much in it, I hated it. But when i stopped using it for commuting and used it as a weekend car and grocery getter, it was much more fun.
My suggestion is to just buy a reliable and cheap commuter car, like a Kia, or Fit or something. Then you'll fall in love with your M3 all over again. |

If your going to be putting a lot of miles on it just get something cheap. No need to break the bank I drive a 98 Elantra as my daily (most days) and rainy weather car

This is what I would do. Get a car with decent mpg civic or camry or something. Then you will still have a nice car to enjoy on weekends.

Get a e30 as DD and keep the M, one of the best fun(make sure its 5spd) little cars to drive and gets good gas mileage, and its not boring to drive like a Camry. Also e30s are cheap, you can find really clean ones for about 3K, if you are a DIYer then find one that needs a tune up for 1Kish and do the work yourself (timing belt, waterpump, brakes, etc). A 325e gets close to 30mpg, I had one and am looking for a cleaner 325is for a DD
check http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=142 and your local craigslist for finds Save the M

if you're having such a debate and really don't wanna get rid of it, keep it and drive it.. Cars are meant to be driven, esp expensive ones, lol. Get your moneys worth, we only live once, and you can't take it with you.

Sean05,
Don't do it sell it that is. Find another way to go to work by train or car pool split the gas cost something can be done I'm sure. This way you still have your car for weekends and holidays, save some cash and eventually get that new one. Another option would be to move closer to your place of work. There is always a way if there is a will Good luck, let us know how you make out. Cheers, Rolf-Dieter PS. In a few years the smaller version of our M3 might be on the market (see below like the smart car) then you can move again far away from your place of work all joking aside ... like others said you only live once so enjoy your car you work hard and deserve it so don't you sell it hear.

I'd say wait and stick around a till the end of the ordering cycle for '13.. By then we should know more about the new ///M and you can make a better decision then.. Def keep the Jetta for a DD.

If your commute to work if mostly hwy why not trade it on a 1M with the turbo set up on the hwy its bound to get better mpg. Or, trade it on a new M5. Same deal. With the turbos on there it'll be more efficient. However, if you can swing a second car I would definitely do it. I'd try and pick up a used Jetta TDI. Then you have 4 doors for practicality, diesel for efficiency, and you get to keep your M3.
