The F30 sedan should be out soon. My wife and I are deciding between the new F30 or a X3 also to replace her current Mini Cooper S. We are mid thirties and don't have children yet. As for getting what she wants, I felt the same way having to buy the Cooper several years back for her since it was not practical. However having a hatchback and my E90 was still two different cars. Anyways, it would make more sense for her to get the latest generation-f30 sedan or wait for the coupe f32 the following year. Why buy last generation looks, it will look old next year. The new f30 328i may be a four cylinder turbo but recent reviews seems good. Have her test drive the f30, maybe the new looks and features may impress her. She can also one up her BMW friend with a newer generation.

Yes, I do think it's stupid to have 2 sports coupes as the only 2 cars in your "garage".

Also, NEVER bring up the fact that you're the one working for the $$ to pay for the cars. That is a very bad idea.
Never say you are the money maker! Bad move.... Obvious need not be stated.

X3 is a great way to go. Incredibly safe and very practical.

First of all, some debate if the M3 is a sports car (I do not, and believe it is), but make sure your wife understands that a coupe is not a sports car, just because it looks sporty, especially a modest powered, all wheel drive luxury coupe.

If she wants a sports car, she's looking at the wrong things.

If you have use for a vehicle that can haul a lot of stuff or live where you get a lot of snow, the X3 is better. If you don't need the practical benefits, then get what ever you both want.

Remember, you are married, and all of your possessions (baring a prenup) are both of yours, so she already owns a sports car.

Made a compromise....

Well...it was less of a compromise and a choice of practicality.

We went back to BMW of Alexandria and again spoke with our salesman. We decided we were going to get a BMW instead of a Merc. We looked at the 328xi coupe again and also the X3.

Both were around the 50K range out the door for the models we were looking at.

Than our sales rep mentioned the huge incentive they had for the 335xi. They had it on the sedans. Fully loaded this thing was 55K and with all of the incentives and programs we could attach to it we got it for 41300. We couldn't pass this up. When the wife got behind the wheel of the turbo engine and floored it she had a big smile on her face. Than when I took the wheel I was shocked at how fast this sucker was (not exactly my M, but still...shocking). We got it in SG with the dakota black interior.

I was really happy with our compromise and fully satisfied with the price and choice of car.

I know the F30 is coming out soon , but there is no way they were going to come close to the price of this 335xi.

Just wanted to thank all you guys for the advice!

The pics were taken by the wife this morning near the dental office she works at part time. That's why the pictures look like they were taken in front of a second rate abortion clinic in Newark NJ.

I love the new X3, especially with the sports package and adaptive steering options. If you can get her to test drive one before getting the 3 series I think she'll be very pleasantly surprised. It really is the best of all worlds: it has a light sporty feel like a sports sedan, but offers the cargo space and passenger room of an SUV. Also with the new transmissions the fuel consumption is on par with the cars...

Awesome! I just went through this with my wife. Narrowed it down to 3 cars and then I just said, "your car, your decision"... "I'll get you whichever one you pick"

Wasn't the one I would have picked but she is happy and that makes me happy.

Mazda CX9 (and I offered her an X5 - go figure!!) Oh well, saved me some serious cash.

Are there incentives beyond the $1,500 cash and the $1,840 option credit? $14K off seems insane....

It was...What it came down to was $8K off the bat due to Dealership deciding not to keep or pay their sales personnel the difference from BMW's deduction on the 335xi. I know that was a horrible description, but I forget all of the dealer lingo that was used for the discount.

Essentially, since the F30 is right around the corner, BMW is scrambling to have their remaining E90 inventory sell before the F30's hit the sales floors. The first to have these great deductions are the E90's because the sedans come first, than the coupes, than the convertibles. Some Dealers will add small incentives on top and give their salesmen the difference, but with this particular car it was below "bracket" (I hope Ryan doesn't read this or he may laugh at me for trying to use car business lingo).

BMW Alexandria happened to have this great deal for 3 335xi's.

I got the price down even further than that through the back and forth and finally the car was ours.

I couldn't walk away from it. It wasn't exactly what both of us were looking for, but with money saved and us feeling fantastic about it who can complain?
