Oil change, just filter or oil too...please see inside

Car says change oil in 900 miles. Filter and oil was changed at 22,500 miles. At 31,800 miles, crush washer failed, car was towed to dealer and the car was fully drained and new oil installed.

I am now at 35k miles. Thinking I should just change filter for now.

Thoughts?

I don't think you need to do anything other than reset the oil change interval reminder. The filters don't really accumulate much of anything, the oil is the issue and sounds like yours is still fairly new.

The "failure" of the drain plug washer (it's copper) is really fishy, sure it wasn't cross threaded? Anyway, most of us change the oil somewhere between every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. I change every 7,500.

I would say entirely the opposite...fully synthetic oil is very resilient, you don't need to change the oil because it is breaking down, you change it to refresh the additives and to remove the unfiltered crap that ends up suspended in the oil.
If the filter wasn't changed at 31,800 miles then I would change it.

The filter is big and sized for 15k intervals. I doubt it needs changing, but if you want peace-of-mind, may as well -- it's less than $30.

Filter is only like 17 bucks online and is a quick change out. If you can id do all my own oil changes etc. This is what happens when you let someone else monkey with your car.

Purchased filter and installed over the weekend. Piece of cake. My car had an extra cap over the filter cover (not shown in the online how to videos, wonder if that was added later). Took all of ten minutes. Reset oil timer, and will change the fluid again at 40k (car says 16k!)

"For peace of mind, why not change both? That way for SURE you'll know everything is fresh! Cheers!" Because it is a waste of money.
