be careful when selecting gas

Today Mfest track day at LVMS, i ran out of gas (almost complete empty) in the morning so I went to the nearest gas station of the track called Valero or something like that. I thought they closed to the track that must be selling some nice gas. I saw they have 93 Octane (it's like a dream if you are from CA) that only selling for $4.1/gal. So I pumped 15.5 gal, then things gone really bad.
My car shut down several times while it was at idle for no reason. The car felt a lot less power at the track. DAMN!
I pump some Shell 91 after I finished that tank of junk, everything back to normal.

I only fill up with Shell or 76. Chevron is good too. I would only fill up with these three gas stations.

I also try to stick with one gas only. Since I started filling up with Shell since Day 1, I always fill up Shell only.

I never heard of valero before. That gas station is on the side of the track, so I thought it might worth to try. Hell no
I'm happy with Shell, Chevron and Mobil that I use for years.

It wasn't the 93 octane that caused the issue. The station may have had some water in their storage tanks or something and you got some when you filled up. This can happen with any brand if the tanks aren't pumped for water on a regular basis.

Why would Sunoco Canada be on the list but not Sunoco for the USA?

Hmm, I never said mixed with 93 would cause problem. Just saying some companies' gas has problem.

First off it was probably water in the fuel as it had nothing to do the fact it was a Valero. I woudn't buy Valero fuel just for the fact Valero is a Venezuelan company owned by Hugo Chavez himself. Gasoline regardless of brand is all refined at the same refineries, the only difference is the type of detergent or level it has in the fuel decided by the said manafactuerer, ie; Chevron, Unocal, etc.

Normally the issue is the fact the fuel may have been old in the underground tank and it contained some water in there.

Valero is an American company out of San Antonio. You're thinking of Citgo.

Sunoco Canada and Sunoco USA are two different companies. If you go to the website, they ask you which Sunoco are you trying to look at.

I love it when "knowledgeable" people adamantly state that there's no difference between gasoline brands and that it's all marketing. Maybe the gas is all the same before the additive packages are added, but then the game changes based on the quality of the additives.

I only use Shell......or occasionally Texaco if I'm running low and there's no Shell station nearby. I imagine Shell and Texaco (both top tier rated) are of similar or equal quality, but I've always had good luck with Shell so I stick with what I know.
