2011+ BMW OEM Alarm Retrofit
Has anyone successfully retrofitted a BMW alarm system on a 2011+ E9x?
I started experimenting with a kit, and spent about 15 hours total before getting stuck at the wiring portion of the installation. The instructions for the three wires that tap in for power, K-CAN-High and K-CAN-Low is incorrectly described in the installation guide (attached), as the fuse slot for the power wire doesn't exist, and the K-CAN wire colors do not match up as the installation guide suggests. I've written about my installation struggles on the E90 forums, but I think I should be asking other M3 folks since I'm thinking perhaps the 2011+ M3's have a different style junction box altogether that's giving me these headaches. E90 thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=326453&page=4 Thanks all |

Is there a chance that you are not looking at the 54 pin connector X14271. I believe the connector should be black. Check for those wire colors in the harness to X14271. Any chance of snapping a picture of the connector you are looking at along with the junction box? If you need the diagrams PM me with your email address. |

The install manual he attached is interesting reading. The manual says 8 hours install on E92 with the work done by BMW trained technician with latest BMW service information.....not a simple install. Last edited by kenwelch; 12-29-2013 at 06:44 PM.. Reason: install time added |

Let me know if you get this done. I'm definitely interested. My car was not pre-wired for the alarm either.

We've done it, it's not a fun installation!
It's like retrofitting comfort access to a car not equipped.. It's too bad they stopped pre wiring the cars.. They have been pre wired for the most part for 20 years.

Mike, can you give me a little bit of guidance on the wiring portion?
I finally got the K-CAN wiring business figured out. So at this point, I've "completed" the wiring, but the clown nose doesn't want to blink. Do you need to get it coded to have the clown nose on the mirror to blink? I thought this works, even before the alarm is coded. Also, what did you do to get the alarm to work with the existing wiring for the HomeLink garage opener and the compass inside the rear view mirror? Did you have to take the wires out of the existing harness that goes in to the mirror, and put it in to the new harness provided in the alarm wiring kit? |

Did you hook up the interior motion sensor? Usually the clown nose will blink once that's installed, even prior to programming. In your case, perhaps it needs programming first.

Hi, I would be interested in doing this retrofit too. sadly my car is 2009/09 without wiring.
So I will need: Retrofit cable, Ultrasonic module, Emergency-current siren, bonnet switch, holders screws. But do I need new: Ceiling light, Rear-view mirror, Door lock, Supplementary wiring harness? |
