Black is much more classy, while red is sportier. To each their own. Where your choice will matter is when you sell it. Red is VERY polarizing. For some people RED is a deal breaker, whereas black is black.

I would love to get manual seats and save some money on it, oh well no dice.

FR looks nice, but I just thought that black would hold up better with time since we have kids.

Thanks Metak... was just thinking about whether or not the seats would age well! Clearly they do... 3 years and your seats look like new - how often do you condition them?

I'm not a professional detailer or anything but I found a system that is easy for me to stick to, as I am lazy at times. I use leather wipes weekly (whatever brand you like, I use Meguires, this will keep them clean and moisterize while keeping the matte look) or every other week and as soon as I see some drying or wrinkling the wipes are not taking care of, I use Leatherique(maybe 1-2 times a year). I am also not a small guy at 6' 230lbs, so I am careful of how I get in and out of the car to protect the bolsters, I use the steering wheel to help guide my fat ass into the seat. My seats are exactly 1 year old now and look like the day I bought the car.

Thanks Metak - that info is handy - I imagine that it doesn't really matter what leather you buy (black or red) if you don't look after it, it will look like shite after a year or two. Using the leather wipes is a great idea. Protecting the bolsters is a very good point - again something that will need to be done regardless of black or red leather.... Ahh the choices..

I've been watching the poll... interesting... shame that there isn't a ticker capability.... seems like fox red has always been the more popular choice amongst ///M-Drivers... with black being the choice of reason/practicality.
- Both clearly look nice.
- Red is more striking
- Black is subtle
- Resale in Australia may be an issue (as there aren't that many people that would by an M3) - but do I really care about 5 years from now if I've enjoyed my car!

Right now, I'm kind of swaying towards Fox Red... although my sense of practicality is saying otherwise... grrr

Huge +1 on this. I loved cinn on my E46 and would pay almost anything to have it on my E90. I had it in my vert for 6+ years and like yours it looked great when I traded it in. Over 60k miles and it looked great.

Agreed. I ordered mine with FR but did not go extended for that very reason. I think the more black than red makes the FR look a lot better. In an all black car, I think a splash of color will go a long way. If the exterior was some color other than black, I may have made a different choice.

Interesting how this thread is going.... The Poll has always been strong on FR... but Black seems to be climbing in votes!

Out-of-the-gate Black was an early leader - but FR has assumed a commanding lead.

Which makes me posit this: some FR detractors say that it's a negative for re-sale... but I think the M3 buyer is less conservative / more aggressive than the equivalent 3er, 5er etc punter. Ergo, I think FR is a sales advantage.

In fact, when I thought about new vs used I went new for I wanted to avoid the risk of not getting my spec + FR. Maybe I needn't have worried?

Maybe, but this poll is just people who are on the forum. Maybe non-forum members are more conservative and overwhelmingly have the black interior with silver exterior(more traditional combo). I think you have to keep in mind that the forum is a small cross-section of a much larger group of M owners.

Fox red in every way, except the red shows wear much quicker than black. Trust me, I've had both!
