Funny how it turned into a E90 vs E92 forum, AGAIN, lol. I'd love to get that front splitter for mine. It looks like its just there for a reason and I won't need to worry about scraping it on our glorious ny/nj roads since it doesn't sit lower than the bumper.

It's really not difficult to comprehend - it is the same reasons you have an E92 M3 instead of an M6.

I call that M3 UFC!!
M3 has 3 weight categories now just like UFC fighters, BMW should name them Light, Intermediate and for being politically correct instead of heavy, they should go with "original"
so I have E92 OM3

My weight fluctuates in 6 months 15 Lbs up and down and to tell you the truth I can't see a difference in my M3 performance, so why spend money on mods, just diet....

Wow, best argument I've seen yet.

I agree. How hard is it to understand...why is there an E90 M3 and E92M3? Same reason why there's a M5 and M6. There's demand for it and BMW wants to make money.

If M3 was not offered in sedan form, I would not have bought the E92. I would not have bought the M5 either. I would have gone with a C63 or RS4.

I love how strongly some coupe owners feel about the E90 being just a "dad" car. While I would have gotten a coupe without thinking twice, I could only convince my wife that I "needed" a family car instead of my S2000. With that said, I don't ever feel like I got short changed. As a matter of fact, I think of the sedan as being just a different look for the same performance.

If they want to easily reduce weight they need to get rid of the heavy ZCP wheels.

At some point it fails to be a street car.

I seriously doubt this is a real effort. If it was, we'd see:
  1. lightweight wheels
  2. lightweight exhaust
  3. lightweight brakes
None of these seem to have been done. They might have some CF parts, but that won't make a significant difference. Could be another case of M stands for marketing (prolly just a fools day joke). Maybe there are some lightweight seats behind the tint, but I doubt it.

If I was building a lightweight M3 I'd put a standard 3-series transmission and diff in it. They're a little weaker, but a lot lighter. The diff would need to be modified for limited slip. An aluminum rear subframe might help as well.

When do we get more details from this event...?

1) The E30 pick-up that says M3 on the numberplate?
2) The E34 M5 Cabriolet
3) The Original M roadster on the presentation in the background
4) The E46 in the presentation
5) The two tone vehicle in the presentation
6) what might be the E36 M3 Compact

....

???

all i want is that man's jacket .
Seriously, this is not a joke. Scott mentioned some stuff that were going down in the near future; maybe this is one of them.
E36 lightweight M3 was a serious contender; I just didn't care of owning a car that doesn't have an A/C and a radio. HOwever, the car did have aluminum doors, and X brace .
