 Japanese Horse 12hh (12 hands high) The Taishu Horse This breed developed in the steep and hilly country of Tsushima in Nagasaki Prefecture where horse breeding was known as early as the 8th century.  German Hanoverian Horse: 17hh (17 hands high)  A Hanoverian is a warmblooded horse originating in Germany, which is often seen in the Olympic Games and other difficult English style competitions, and have won gold medals in all three equestrian Olympic competitions. It is one of the oldest, most numerous, and most successful of the warmbloods.
