Wink Thinking of buying a B7 Alpina

I've been looking at this car for the past few months and I'm going to take the plunge unless someone can come up with something they have read about the car that might make me think twice.

Anything??

Great car.

But here's a more critical review of it:

I don't trust TTAC at all when it comes to reviews, but I read them weekly nonetheless. The quips they make are funny, but they describe everyother feature about the car with some random german phrase that I don't understand lol.

The B7's a great car: Incredibly practical, very fast, good looking. All in one wonder.

Simply put... one incredible machine. If you can afford it... then go for it. I'm pretty certain that if I could afford one, I'd have it in my garage right now.

Best wishes to you... and HAPPY MOTORING!!!

Oh haha, coincidence, there was a B7 at my dealer today when I went to go buy a rear tow hook cover. The trim isn't all that good looking on the inside, but the non-polished wood is awesome. If you've seen the silver painted plastic inside a 750i or whatever, then you'll know what I mean. It's not very luxurious.

Is it just me, or does the B7 (or the facelifted 7's in general) look genuinely angry from the front? Seriously, the headlights scream "I'm gonna run you over" or something. I like it .

It's def. a beautiful car. I'm guessing you're planning on buying new? Isn't the new 7 series supposed to debut in concept form late this year? If so, you may want to think twice about buying a car that will be outdated in 1-2 years.

Well the dealership I want to get it from only has 1 on the floor and it's been there for 2 weeks, no one has jumped on it. I'm guessing if I don't jump on it now, I don't think I'll be able to get one again until a new one comes out.

The thought of a super charged BMW just makes me drool though.

You know, on second thought, I'd advise you pass on it if you're not 100% in love with it based on your own feelings.

Test drive it. Hell, ask if you can borrow if for a day (be extra careful haha), and really get to know what the car's like. If you're not absolutely 100% in love with it, don't drop that kinda cash on it. Otherwise you'll probably end up kicking yourself in the face for doing so.

Well I do like the car a lot, and I've been looking for a nice full size sedan. It's not even the money really because I'm sure like a lot of people who browse these forums, money is not really an issue if you're buying BMW. Otherwise most people would just buy a cheaper car.

For me I'd just like to know that there aren't any big problems with the car, as was the case with the 2002 7 Series cars. I'd hate to drop $125,000 on a lemon. The thought of a super charged BMW just attracts me like no other.

Hard for me to say since I have never driven one but I had the chance to drive a buddies M5 and was very impressed. I noticed that is what you drive now. That is one hell of a car IMO. I think the M5 has a younger look to it also. Then again, I couldn't afford either one!!

the b7 can be compared to s55 amg i guess. both are very luxurious and have alot of power but if its a bmw you want you can't get anything better then a b7 for a 7 series.

if your open to it how about a csl conversion

Don't worry about electrical issues. Apparrently 2002 was a horrid year across the board for BMW models concerning reliability, primarily the 7 series. From what I've read, the general consensus on the post-facelift 7 series is that it's much improved. I wouldn't be too concerned about it, and I'm sure BMW makes sure that their top of the line cars get a little more attention.

You should really test drive it. I guarantee you it'll be the deciding factor in the longrun.

Well went to the dealership tonight but they said they couldn\'t pull it out of the showroom for a test drive because it was near closing time and they would have to move like 3 cars to get it out. However they did try to get me to talk \"numbers\" for almost an hour.

The rep said he\'d reserve me a test drive during lunch, so I\'ll see if this car is truly what I think it is. I\'ll get back to you guys about my experience with the car tomorrow.

Awesome. During the test drive, make sure you check out everything about the car. If it's gonna be your only car think about how you'd feel driving it everyday and whether or not it's right as a DD. Personally, I'd prefer your M5, but preferences are subjective, so yeah. What color is it?

Also, what kind of "numbers" was the guy talking, if you don't mind me asking?

They only have one B7, and it's all white. I'm not partial to white cars, my current M5 is black. But I figure with such a limited release car I can't be that picky, and it does look pretty nice in white.

It's not going to be my only car, but it will be my second BMW (I have a Porsche 997TT, and Range Rover). I would never trade in the M5, it loves me, and has taken care of me thus far.

In terms of numbers, as equipped, the car is $115,000 MSRP. So out the door was in the area of $124,000. I told him I could do $116,000 out the door, trying to bargain with him, and he went on this long speech about how great Alpina tuned cars are, and how it was a special badge of "honor" to drive one. I actually had to listen to this guy until 8PM when I finally said we can chat tomorrow after the test drive.
