That was after they pitted both their cars for the 2nd time...

Yeah I think you are right - they just couldn't keep the harder tires long enough to make a one stop work and they were slow in sector 2.

I have a question for you guys - I really don't understand the hate of Hamilton. I'm not a huge fan of his, but reading some peoples' comments on the web about him I find mystifying.

Was tweeting the telemetry bad for the team? Yeah, very much so, but as a fan of motor racing I found the info fascinating. I don't see this as him "acting like a baby" or "being immature." I think he just wanted to show people how much faster Button was going around the track than everyone else. And then, the next commenter calls him "immature" for not wanting to talk about the accident and moving on to congratulate Button's win, which, to me, seems to be the most mature thing you could do in that situation. Hamilton could have skewered Grosjean, and he had every right to based on the video. Anyway, I just don't get it. Like I said, not a big fan of Hamilton, but the guy can drive a car, his performance in Canada was nothing short of amazing.

Grosjean should be shamed of himself. That was ridiculous. Talk about screwing up a good race.

Maldonado needs to be suspended for a race or two. Jumping the start and causing yet another collision. What a putz.

Button owned Spa this weekend. Just a shame we didn't get to see some closer racing at the front.

Poor Schumi can't catch a lucky break.

Grosjean got a 1 race ban and 50k euros penalty. Maldonado got 10 place grid penalty for jumping the start and causing a collision.

I think Grosjean got off easy.

Wow, exciting race for sure.

Button had a walk in the park. Vettel had a great race to bring it home in 2nd.

From the Stewards on Grosjean:
Quote:
"It eliminated leading championship contenders from the race. The stewards note the team conceded the action of the driver was an extremely serious mistake and an error of judgement. Neither the team nor the driver made any submission in mitigation of penalty."
That feels like both Ferrari and McLaren teamed up to lobby the stewards into the ban. Though it was justified.

Yeah, no one was believing Grosjean's line about not being able to comment because he hadn't seen the replay - unless of course he had his eyes closed during the start.
"Use the Force, Luke" - ooops

Maldonado, on the other hand, is never short on excuses. "My clutch slipped, an old friend came in from out of town, my tux didn't come back from the cleaners, there was an earthquake...."
I love the shot of the Starter up in the tower shaking his head at Maldonado.

I wonder if Ferrari would want to change Massa for Schumi next year?

So if Grosjean take out some HRT and Marussia, he will just be given a reprimand and fine only?

What happened to fairness and consistency?

The first half of the race was good, but the second half was a bit dull. Pity for Hamilton and Alonso, I think the race would have been more interesting with them in it.

Also, DRS kind of wrecked, once again, what is otherwise a fantastic circuit. I don't understand why you need DRS when you have two incredibly long straights conducive for overtaking.

Back to the race, a lot of great moves by Webbo and Seb at the bus stop chicane.
I enjoy the battles over there than the DRS at Kemmel straight.

Vettel did an incredible job given his Red Bull always max out on rev limiter at Kemmel straight while using DRS, thus unable to overtake. He makes the most out of the bus stop chicane and pit strategy.

With Alonso and Hamilton taken out in the whole first corner debacle, it's tightened up the championship again. I think Button drove superbly in qualifying and carried that good form into the race. Looking forward to this weekends race at ne of my favourite tracks

I like Hamilton, but tweeting the telemetry was an enormous mistake on his part. Other teams can learn and calculate a lot from raw data like that, and effectively learn how McLaren sets up their car.

Also here it is if you're curious You can see how Hamilton's higher downforce rear wing was limiting him on the straights compared to Button, he lost .6 and .5 seconds on the straights compared to JB.

Pretty good race despite the start. Grosjean's penalty is completely fitting seeing how he nearly decapitated Alonso. If you're wondering why they were so harsh on him, it was because 1) of the severity of the incident and 2) he's been involved in (but not always caused) 7 first lap incidents out of 12 races.

Maldonado proved again why he's a pay driver.

Good drive by Vettel in the RB8 which was a dog this weekend, clearly drag limited on the straights. His scrap with Schumi for a bit was nice to watch.

Anyone else notice that we never got to see Grosjean's onboard? Seems like we saw everyone else's but his.

I would be more supportive of the FIAs decision had they used the same logic with Maldonado. in other words they're selectively enforcing rullings on stupid move and that isn't ok.

Personally I see about a meter to the right of Hamilton, but Grosjean was a bit too aggressive on the squeeze. I'd give it a grid penalty personally - but a race ban is ridiculous.

consider the race ban an award for taking out 2 world champs before turn 1

That's exactly what it is - and that's crap. So when Maldonado hits Fernando is when his actions will finally be punished?

For that matter. Maldonado blatantly jumped the start - but its ok because he crashed out after the safety car reset?
