MY2012: Correlation between production number and production date?

Argh - mine has been at the port since the 22nd... missed the Endurance and the Elektra. The Patriot just left port a few hours ago, not sure if my car made it on. Carmen is next in two days. I don't want to think about my car not making the Carmen, next ship doesn't get to Bremerhaven until the 10th.

Dealer wasn't much help, hopefully I will have more info once its confirmed on a ship.

On a side note, who knew that "Marine Spotting" was a thing that people did? Fascinating what is out there.

Here was the schedule of my vehicle once I started calling the 800 number:

9/7 - painting
9/8 - transported to port of exit
9/16 - in transit
9/29 - arrived at port in Baltimore
10/5 - estimated to arrive at dealer
10/6 - pickup

I believe this is one of the first 2012's to arrive as I haven't seen any posts by forum members taking delivery of 12' models.

Mine hit the port in South Carolina on 9/22 and was at the VPC since the 23rd and still hasn't been cleared for shipping to the dealer. So I think you'll be really lucky if you get yours by the 6th, but I think that you will probably have to get it the next week. I plan to pick mine up on Friday (10/7) hopefully. But it is all dependant on the VPC to clear it.

Mine made it onto the Endurance which is currently scheduled to arrive at the Port of Baltimore on the 5th! I'm hoping to take delivery by mid Oct, if I'm lucky.

My CA wasn't able to get this information until the 27th - it appears it's a hit or miss thing whether you'll actually get the name of the ship before it leaves the port.

You can obsessively enter your VIN as the cargo ID into the shipping company website until you get a hit

I did try that obsessively

...but it didn't show up on the website until the 27th (same day I got the info from my CA) which was four days after the Endurance left port.

Also, I'm unable to track the location of the Endurance in "real time" so I sure hope the ETA on WW's website is accurate!

Looks like no ships are leaving for CA until Oct 8th. Hope mine ends up on there.

Interesting. My original production of 366xxx finished last week. Odd that they would happen out of order.

I'm picking mine up in Munich... almost seems like those would be done first!

Of course, our production numbers may only be a few hundred slots apart, and I'm just going by the website which we all know is slow. They could have finished on the same day!

dbarnes, if you don't mind me asking, when did your car finish production?

And where in MD are you? I'm in the Ellicot City/Columbia area, ordered my M3 from Annapolis BMW.

Curious to how long it takes your car to get from the port to the dealership. If I can finally figure out what ship its on may be tempted to watch it come into port. Keep us updated.

Got my rental for the next 5-6 weeks...

I lucked out. Reserved an Aveo (or similar) and ended up with a Mazda 3 - much better car! Booked it for 8 weeks just to be safe - since that locks my rate.

I'm paying $499 / month for the car and $270 / month for the insurance for a total of $769 / month. Hopefully they get my car out here soon!

There are two systems for tracking the ships. One gives you a GPS ping every 3 hours and covers the entire globe ( www.sailwx.info ). The other only works near the shoreline, but gives you almost real-time positioning data ( www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ ). There's more details in the stickied tracking thread.

To track your ship, you need to know its name and/or call sign. For example, my car is on the Independence 2 (call sign WGAX).
