Question Collapsible tow-hook mount license plate holder?

I'm looking for a license plate holder that does not require drilling. I've been searching this topic here for years now, to no avail. One popular choice is to go with a tow-hook-mount holder, but I am not drawn to those because they connect to the frame and it wouldn't take much of a fender bender to do some deep damage.

Does anyone know of a version that uses something besides a solid hunk of metal to connect? Something that would collapse in a fender bender?

I've tried the one that connects to the bottom mesh grill, but that is too flimsy (not to mention a pita to install). I've also ruled out the bottom mount because the front end will be low enough already with the splitter I'm planning to get.

Any leads would be much appreciated!

you've exhausted literally every option except putting the plate on or leaving it off entirely. I don't see what "damage" the tow hook plate can do. in an accident it bends the plate. thats it.

3m double side tape. Tape your plates on to your bumper. Trust me it will hold.

I have seen some people use magnets to mount the plate (one behind the bumper and one on the plate itself).

I'm talking about the metal shaft that runs from the plate back to screw into the frame. My concern is that if it's anywhere near as solid as the tow hook itself, any reasonable bump would be passed straight through to the frame. I was wondering if there was one that used a less solid construction, stable enough to hold the plate steady at speed, but soft or brittle enough to give in a modest impact.

Double sided tape.

The most obvious yet so often overlooked solution.

And please put the plate in the center.

I made one with a dry wall anchor, a piece of scrap metal, and felt....it doesn't connect to the tow hook at all and fits flush to the bumper.

I can see that this would drive a Highway Patrol Man up the wall after he chased you over half the country site ... stopping you

as you roll down the window he starts out

"Licence and requestration!"

You "What have I done Officer?"

He "No front licence plate"

You "What have I lost it?"

He "No there is none!"

You "Impossible"

He checks and gets all red in the face

I think that you are over thinking this one. This really isn't a risk worth worrying about. I think the tow hook mount will break off before frame damage occurs. Even if it didn't and there's enough force for frame damage, you would have had it anyway...

Use the 3M stuff to tape to bumper or just zip tie it to the grill

Kind of ghetto, but I use tape sometimes when street parking in LA to avoid tickets, but wouldn't feel comfortable driving around with it taped on.
