I'm no body shop expert, but I can guarantee you that that is alot more than just $3K in repairs. Fixing the rear bumper alon and tail light will be atleast $3K, more so because there is probably internal damage there you can't see. i say $5-6K in repairs atleast....

the bumpers and side skirts are missing because the body shop took them off for inspection. when the insurance company total the car out, the body shop never put the parts back on. thats why those parts are not on the car.

you can buy used bumpers online for $250 each ($500)
control arm is about $400
side skirts are about $300 new
rear quarter panel repair is about $1000
1 wheel is about 700 but you can always go aftermarket wheels anyways.

So the car has a rebuilt title (possible pending due to the car being totaled out .. can't get a rebuilt title until you repair it and prove repairs to the state?)

Further, given rebuilt title it has no warranty?

May I ask what caused all of these damages to the car?

dont get me wrong but just asking..

so according to you, there are about 7-8 pieces are missing...
even if you buy these parts brand new, lets say would cost 6k.
also just a note, insurance companies also buy used parts from other totaled cars, if thats the case, the cost would be even lower than 6k. but lets say, they buy everything brand new for 6k.

the question is, why the insurance company totaled the car for a 6k of parts + 2k of labour?

doesnt really make sence...

$3k in repairs? GTF out of here! Do you think that you are fixing a freaking Civic or Escort? Try looking for M3 parts at your local junk yard...Good Luck...

the car have a salvage title but it is repairable. once you show proof of the car is repair chp will allow it back on the road.

you can find used bumpers on ebay. the only part you would have to buy new is the control arm.

i do not know the history of the car. from what i have seen, the car is not bad at all.

you'd be suprise how cheap these parts are from the dealer. why do you think they call the dealer the stealership?

wing? as in the rear quarter panel? i've done m3 quarter panel for a member here before. he have a 335 and wanted oem m3 quarter panels. that cost him 4500. that is including the parts, labor and paint. keep in mind, this is for replacing, the quarter panel on this car can be pulled. if you want it done right, you can replace it.

the car is sold.

Your buddy might get more money fixing it then selling, since even intersted buyers will use this thread as leverage.

Exclamation Something ROTTEN in Denmark!

The insurance company will declare your car a total loss if and only if they believe that they will save money by settling your total loss for less than what they would spend fixing your car. On a ~$50k car the damage would have to be signicant or a safety issue. I wouldn't touch it with a 100ft. pole!

So, what would cause an insurance company to total a car that only has $3K, or even twice that, in damage? Nothing I can think of! That just doesn't make any sense!!!

There has GOT to be more damage than what's represented here doesn't there? From a couple thousand miles away, I'll venture a guess its suspension bits!

GLWS, but it is a little hinky.

How is this a salvage title? Must have frame damage or some water issues I guess. No way they would declare this a total loss from just the outer body damage.

Thumbs down Yeahhhhh OK

As my family has owned, and still owns an automotive body shop for over 12 years, and as an experienced prep, and painter, and sales estimator I will GUARANTEE that the bill to fix that vehicle the "right" way would be close to $15000, if its a dollar!

These types of threads should be yanked, only to protect the weak and numb-minded from fools like this!

Indeed. Mine had a heck of a lot less damage than that (just cosmetic), and claim was 10 grand.

Making statements like that is irresponsible IMO, especially from a mod. Cars are totalled when proper repairs are worth more than the car, period. An insurance company would NEVER total a car if it didn't have to. Good day gang.

why would insurance company "salvaged" a car if it has just 3K in repair bills? they would pay out that claim in a heartbeat.

car undamaged is probably $45K. OP is selling it for 34K. logic would say its about 11K in realistic damages but more like 18K (trying to get money from it). irresponsible post IMO; really stretching the truth.

what about factoring in diminished value in aside from the money needed to fix it???

I'd STAY AWAY from this car, unless you get it for like $20K... Thats even stretching it!
