Question about M Performance Exhaust

Can't seem to get a clear answer here:

Does this exhaust come with connecting pipes or not? Some sources indicate it is bolt on with no modifications required, others indicate that you must cut the stock exhaust off and either weld or clamp...

What's the verdict?

It's a direct bolt on, no modification is required.

That is good to hear!

I checked with three vendors today, 2 told me it was a cut and clamp system, muffler only... the third one said it was bolt on and then changed his mind and said it was cut and clamp!

Can either of you/anyone who has purchased this system confirm it 100 percent?

Check out this pic, seems like it comes with the piping

Sounds like the vendors you spoke to may not know what they are selling!

Just to be clear, if you are asking about this exhaust, the vendors you spoke to are misinformed; it will come packaged with the muffler and two connecting pipes. You can reuse your stock hardware for the install, everything is bolt on with no cutting. It took me about an hour to do the full install and it was extremely straight forward using this DIY.

How does it sound compared to stock? Any drone noise?

I'm in the market to get an exhaust but I've listened too many of them and still can't make a decision... I'd like to get something mild (not too loud, "euro V8" pitch, and minimal drone noise) for a E93. I don't like the "nascar" sound on some exhaust systems.

What's your personal experience with it?

Doesn't sound like this has drone, based on reviews.

I am having a tough time deciding between this and the active autowerke exhaust. Also not looking for a boomy exhaust, but also don't want to be in a situation where I spend 3k+ for an exhaust and can barely tell there is something different back there!

Just had the MPE installed yesterday and you can definitely hear the difference between stock. More of a hollow/exotic pitch that really wakes up under load and adds some unique character to the v8. It also weighs less than the stock system which is a nice bonus and I'm digging the M logos on the tips. One day into ownership of the performance exhaust I'm happy with my choice and feel our cars should have rolled off the factory floor with it.

If you're looking for performance gains you're better off going with a full-system including x-pipe with HFC's or no cats but be prepared for a relatively loud setup. I've run catless in my previous car and don't think I'll go back down that path with my M.

I love my MPE and it is a direct bolt on as others have stated.

Love mine too. My only complaint is that it didn't come like this from the factory. WTF, mate?

this is the exhaust you are looking for no doubt, check out my youtube vids, I've been trying to capture the exact sounds it makes, its hard but you should get the idea

lol, it's made of inconel and it's got a bit more personality - especially on a cold start - than the average, non-M3Post member might be happy with.

That said, it would have been nice if it was a factory-installed accessory/option like the CF spoiler.

No drone w/the M Perf. I had the AA and it droned under 2K rpm, gave me a headache. The M Performance is a very noticeable difference from stock. If you don't like drone, it's a great option.

100% correct. I made the switch just a few days ago from my AA rear + Dinan Xpipe (totally catless) to M performance Rear + ACM Testpipes. M performance is so much better for daily use and keeps the car sounding classy IMO. Has more of an exotic mild tone than the all out race car sound of the AA setup.

I am shocked but very pleased that I experience absolutely no drone even with the test pipes! The AA drone was felt under ~2krpm which sucked around town and definitely drew the wrong attention from cops. Keep in mind I had a catless Xpipe as well. I daily drive 3000 / month and the AA setup started to give me a headache.

I have heard the M performance unit with stock midsection and it was a very subtle increase from stock. Too subtle for my taste but definitely a nice sound. Pair it with test pipes and not only will you get better sound but a nice performance boost as well. Any future car I get for daily use will have whatever OEM performance exhaust exists + test pipes for performance.

If you want to keep the mid stock I would suggest ACM modded rear. Cheaper than M perf and sounds better if not going the test pipe route.

Ha ha, you know where I live...let me know when you're in town! I know, I know, you also want me to get test pipes. BTW, I'm picking up the new one today.
