Congrats and enjoy your trip. Doing ED is addicting. Where are you planning to go? Stelvio Pass and/or The Ring?

I don't know what your plans are, but the Ring, Hohenverfen(Austria) Salzburg and Davos are highly recommended. However, the mountain passes might be closed this late in the year, so I might save those for next time. Yes, you will want to go again Also, the towns in Bavaria have much to offer as far as scenery and food are concerned. No matter what, you will love it!

You going to Rota or Morón? Be careful in France, they're REALLY good at hiding the speed cameras and they even put them on the pay sections of the Autobahn there. Spain however I don't ever remember seeing a permanent camera anywhere. On the Autovia (free highways) they will set up temp cameras but by the same token they don't seem to bother with speeding on the Autopista (toll highways). I guess they think since you're paying to use the road you can drive how you want??

Also of note, driving on the highways in Spain is going to COVER your car with bugs, and big ass ones. You'll be washing the car or at least quick detailing the car every other day at a minimum. I'd highly recommend looking into a clear bra.

We drove from Ramstein to Morón and back (to get my wife's dog) about 6 days apart and it's a looooooooong boring drive.

Man I'm rambling. Anyway, congrats on the M and have a great drive.

I can't remember when but I am sure that you already check about the winter tire change/law. Be safe and enjoy.

As always, we will love to see pictures of the car in its hometown once you pick it up .

I really want to do ED, still kinda on the fence as the wait for it to ship to California after dropping it off might make a grown man cry every night. However, the price savings and the chance to drive a M car on the Autobahn can make those tears go away.

x2 on the France part ! i'm French, and way back like 10 years ago (just as i was getting my licence ) you could still drive 30-40 kmh over the speed limit without too much to worry about... nowadays they are really anal about speeding, hiding speed cameras behind bridges, or in a car stopped with flashers on on the shoulder lane...
i drove about 700 kms no later than last week there and 99.9% of traffic does the speed limit or less... that tells you how bad it became
the "good" thing for you foreigners is that if you're not doing more than 50 km/h over, you'll just have to pay a fine, no suspension or taking away your car... oh, and in some places they've got some Subbies STI to chase you in case you decide to run away !!!
and last but not least, highways are not free... freakin' expensive even, if you ask me!!!
enjoy the M

The bugs definitely suck. What's your AFSC? We still know quite a few people at Morón and can answer most of your questions. PM me.

Congrats!

We had a blast this past summer when I went to pick up mine.

We went east to Prague. We ended up buying toll stickers for Czech Rep and Austria. I can't but wonder what would have happened if we didn't bother. You have to buy a minimum number of days and I thought Austria was a minimum of 7 days...a little pricey givent that we were only staying two days in Salzburg. I'm thinking skip the toll stickers...

What do others think?

What are toll stickers? I've never even heard of that but I don't spend a lot of time on toll highways either.

You will get hammered if caught w/o the toll stickers. Went to Italy last year & got checked on the way coming back through. Luckily, we bought them coming into Switzerland. It's not worth it.

Friend of mine jumped on the U-Bahn in France w/o buying the 3 Euro ticket. He & his wife got snagged & had to pay 250 Euro cash on the spot or get dragged off to jail. The other folks that got nabbed with them were dragged off. Around here, you get nabbed with no ticket on the U-bahn, they can stop the train & let you off in the middle of nowhere.

By the tickets & toll stickers - It can ruin your day if you don't - especially a foriegner.

Congrats and have a great time. I loved doing ED...one of the best vacations I've had. The 2 month wait to get the car back is miserable though, LOL.
