Exhaust question. Quiet while cruising loud while going all out?
I was looking for some advice for an exhaust. I heard a stock Ferrari 458 exhaust from 2 blocks away racing at max RPM on a B road and I think I've been bit by the exhaust bug. It was intense.
I want something that will be almost as quiet as stock (both for myself and because my girlfriend will complain if it's not), maybe a little louder, but I want it to roar when at max RPM to the point where you can hear it from a distance. Any advice?

Is that the 700 decibel version or the 1900 decibel version?
Wait... But seriously any ideas?

OP what your asking for is not possible...ridculous loud at WOT and still normal decibel at cruising...unless you do some kind of e-valve exhaust setup |

+1 for a valved setup. You're going to need an x pipe and rear section to get the kind of sound you're looking for at WOT. That's just not possible with an exhaust that's "quiet" when just cruising around. Check out Evolve's new system....looks great.

M performance exhaust is worth examining...is moderately louder at idle/cruise vs stock but is significantly louder on WOT. A great choice if neighbors are a consideration.

I know how you feel man...we're all looking for the holy grail of sound.
I like the V8 rumble at idle, but I hate having people staring at me during cold starts (Prius or volt owners no doubt)...I hate drone, but I hella dig ear shattering WFO sound as well. But we all there are no free rides...everything has a compromise. It's the duality of man. Exhaust existentialism. PS. I really enjoy my M performance exhaust...although, I agree with everyone else...more sound is always good on the top end. Have you listened to the M performance exhaust videos?

I dont think the race is that loud and I have the resonators removed too. I actually want to add resonators back and remove all cats. Louder is ALWAYS better and thats a proven fact!!

I like the idea of a nice growl, but loud is just begging for trouble from the police. Best exhaust IMO is one that can be nicely heard by the driver in the cabin but does not say "Hey everybody...look at me driving fast in my expensive car!!" Go with M performance. Best balance of all factors considered

has anyone done exhaust cutouts that open up at a certain rpm?
i test drove a lexus isf a few months ago and one of the different things i liked a lot was the sound of (what i think was) an additional intake plenum opens up and gives the engine a nice boasting growl over a certain rpm.

Dinan muffler with a Dinan mid racing (x-pipe) is the combo you seek. It is barely louder than stock but at WOT, you and others outside will know you gt a lil something something on the car.
