From Evo To 08 M3 Sedan

Hi,

New on the board just picked up my 08 M3 sedan. Well it should be here before the 24th so I was told. I came from an 06 EVO that made 475 to the wheels. With that being said I hope i am not let down. I have never drove an M but have my fingers crossed !

I already miss modding the EVO so I am sure I will be searching the mod path soon. Think I shall start with the exhaust

A stock E90 M3 puts down ~350rwhp. Of course, as I'm sure you're familiar, mods make all the difference. There's folks on these boards that are getting close to 600rwhp.

With that said, welcome to the board, and good luck with your inevitable modding.

Well having small doubts abou the M3?....

Just wait, its just a beast over 5k rpm. Totally different feeling. I came from a bolt on STI and I love this car so so much more.

It will not feel anything like your Evo, if you like that low end power, you may be disappointed.

I am hoping that I can get the M to be around 450-475. However not sure that is doable with out a s/c. In the evo world you could do all the bolt ons some cams and e85 and you where there.

ha ha ha yes one less evo on the road ! Trust me I got tired of all the ricers trying to race me. It was absolutely nuts, Neons, civics, accords, cavaliers, always trying to race me

hopefully the BMW will not grab that kind of attention !

any suggestions for first mod ?

cool....your new M3 will be an eye opener for you! Pretty sure you'll think to yourself - 'why the hell didn't I do this sooner?!' That's what went through my mind when I test drove my 2011 e92. I bought it the next day and sold my 2005 gorgeous e46 in a record 48 hours!

Good luck, I'm sure you're antsy to get it! Post some pics of your new ride when you get it.

Nice Christmas gift for yourself!

the evo was a great car had great power and was very responsive. However the evo stock is not much of a match for an M3. However a modded evo whould take the win. It seems as though the M3 is limited to modifications, verse the evo. When I did the exhuast, intake, and tune on the evo i picked up 30-45 WHP. It only coast me 1700 bucks. If I do the same thing to the M3 I might be lucky If i pick up 20 whp and I have to spend 2-4k to do it. that is nuts !

Are you looking for power, refinement, or the status? Because to me it seems like you don't know what you want.

Yes, I agree that BMW mods are overpriced for the most part but you can't expect econobox mod prices.

If you think what he meant about an eye opener was power you missed the point.

The reason the E90 M3 is so good it not all about power....... it is about how versatile the car is. You can take it to the grocery store, take the kids to school, go on a cross country trip with luggage for four people in comfort or you can take it to the track. That is what makes the E9X M3 a great car.

There are faster cars out there and there are cars that are faster around a track but I guarantee you there are none that do so many things as well as the E9X M3.

Congrats on the new car, after a few weeks you will realize exactly what I am talking about.

yes I could not agree more with you the M3 for me is about status, luxury, and its abilities as a sports car. However I am always looking to push the envelop.

if you are referring to the EVO as an econobox I think that is a little off

This is because a turbo car is going to respond to mods a lot better. Increasing boost is easy HP. It's really hard to improve upon the m3 power-wise (staying NA) because the car was engineered so well already. I think the M3 is a car you buy for what it is, not it's potential with mods.

Couldn't agree more (although, I'm sure plenty will disagree).
