Oh yeah, Geico... I believe the OP.

Geico will NOT save you 15% like the add says, it will overcharge you an arm and a leg over other insurance companies. When I lived in Colorado, I was 35 with an immaculate driving record, and was quoted $4,500/year for a 2003 MINI Cooper S. I ended up paying $750/year through eSurance.

How do geico and esurance justify these prices for auto policy for good experienced driver over the age of 30?
Auto insurance is NOT a luxury,- but a vital lifeline for car ownership. What kind of formula have they used to mistakenly profile me as a major liablity driver?

I wonder if this is legal and FTC has to be involved?

I have to be honest. I don't know why people use Geico. Try Ameriprise. It's a former spin-off of American Express. I have been with them for almost 11 years. You will be hard-pressed to find cheaper. USAA if you qualify, but probably not quite as cheap.

^^^^^^

Maybe because every 15 minutes we see Geico commercials on TV saying "call geico, it'll save you 15% or more... bla bla bla..."

Can I be a member of USAA if I never was in US Army?

(reading USAA site right now,- looks very good)

I found that in NYC different companies have wildly different rates. I live in Manhattan and was quoted as high as 6500 a year. Ended up with Travelers at 775 every 6 months. I have a completely clean license and no claims.

Yeah, I made two stupid claims back in '08,- stone chip in windshield and blown tires... What a heavy price to pay for small claims. But I thought that's what Full Coverage is for, isn't it why we pay premium price for full coverage is to cover accidents and incidents?

I am going to try Travelers however. Thanks for posting

i read part of your thread, just so you know i had the same thing happen to me. i returned my car at the end of lease and so i went through a 6 month period without a car. Then once i got my car i was told 'a gap' in car insurance of minimum of 6 months resets everything- as in you are evaluated like a new driver. i figure car insurance companies are also feeling the hurt of economy. my year rate with allstate for hudson county was 7k and change. clean hx on the car and motorcycle. i was furious. luckily the agent who take of my folks stuff helped me out with a reasonable quote. its all bs. my credit scores are throough but none of that mattered when it comes to the 6 month rule.

Thanks for posting. On your lead I went to Travelers, and got one of the lowest quotes so far $431/m for Brooklyn Zip code... Still much (can lease another bimmer at that price) it is what it is...

Progressive gave the lowest quote so far $388/m

They are my number 1 competitor in the DC area I have the same reaction. I have a lot of clients that switch over from them mostly when they turn 25, buy a house, and basically realize they are adults now.

Joking aside, they have a great business model but it's always smart as a consumer to shop around to find the right company and/or agent.

Hey Dima,

Thanks for your referral to Tenafly, I am now shopping for my insurance as well. I did an online quote last week for e93 and got a quote for 157 a mo... I never had insurance before (used my parents). Im going to call around as well to see if I can get a better rate. I am registering in Queens, but BK and Queens shouldn't be that different. The Geico quote is insane.... I'll let you know if I find something good.

That sounds extremely high...

I've been getting quotes for mine too when I get back from this deployment. I feel mine is a little high but I am thinking it is because I am in Germany. My quote from USAA isn't too bad. I have to pay $300 a month for my new car and my 2002 Eclipse GT. I'm 26, no accidents, no violations. I think it seems a tad high because it is in Germany where they require some pretty high liability coverage. I got a quote from Progressive for my hometown of Philadelphia for both cars and it is at about $240 a month. I will be registering the cars there in January/December probably, so if USAA isn't any cheaper I will have to switch over.

If this has taught me anything, it's that you have to be picky and shop around. Don't just take the first thing you find.
