Envy Charge Pipe -- Impressions

Installed the Envy Charge Pipe the other day. I got to say, I wasn't really expecting a whole lot. Although it is claimed to provide a 14 hp boost, I figured I wouldn't feel much of a difference. I have previously installed an AA X-Pipe with HFC, RE UDP's, High flow air filter, scoops, and a PC tune. With each of those mods, I was like, yeah, I notice some difference, but it wasn't a big WOW (although the PC tune provided the biggest "boost").

After the Envy Charge pipe install, I was like, WTF! The car is much more responsive, and I am spinning the wheels hard in 3rd now....I am sort of trippping out here.....I think the COMBO of the mods (and of course the PC tune) just "fit". The car has come alive now. Honestly, I am tripping off how good it feels now.

I am not saying the Charge Pipe is gonna be a fricken amazing power increase for anybody, it's just that now that I added it, I am like WTF!! This car feels GREAT now.

Again, I think it is a combo of all the other mods. But I must say, it seems the Charge Pipe is the thing that made it all "click".

Eric at PYSpeed was great to deal with and answered the questions I had, etc. Thumbs up for PYSpeed and the Envy Charge Pipe.

Like I said, I was skeptical and didn't expect much. However, I was really impressed.

Again, I think it may just be a combination of the mods I have. The pipe just made it all click. I don't know. I just know the power increase is noticable now...to the point of me thinking "WTF!". lol

I think at the very least, anybody would notice the increased throttle response! Just by looking at how much more massive the pipe is compared to stock, it makes sense there is more air readily available when you snap open the throttle.

I am curious to hear others impressions.....

I had a similar experience. You can definately feel something, but more importantly, the car felt smoother and more responsive in the low end.

Eric was also great to deal with. I kind of like that small company - personal touch. Pick up the phone and someone actually answers.

At the least, I bet you will feel increased throttle response.

I would strongly recommend buying a high flow air filter too! It's only $80 or so, and combined with the charge pipe, I bet you will feel a nice little bump in hp.

I am not trying to be negative but I am having a very hard time believe this. The stock piece is just rubber/plastic, it's a tube. I see no restrictions in it.

I don't see why it would. Ask your dealer.

I was of similar mindset. I can only relay what I experienced....

However, there is a big difference in size. Also, the Envy pipe is smooth. The stock piece has all those "ribs" in it. One would this those create turbulence, etc.

Hell, I don't know. Lol. But I do know it seems to make a nice difference on my car.

I wish I was affilated with PYSpeed. Lol. I could make a comission! But I am not, just a satisfied customer!

GT3 Tim, did you install just the short pipe that connects the filter box to the airbox, or the whole intake system? Did you install a new filter as well, or was everything else the same? I have a hard time understanding why BMW would leave such performance on the table that could come at the minor cost of using a larger diameter plastic pipe. Yes, there could be noise reduction considerations, etc, but we are just talking about the pipe and not the entire intake system. Is the difference across the rev range? I guess it is possible that there might be low vs high rpm intake tuning considerations. I understand what you mean by the possibility of this mod somehow working with any modifications you might have made on the exhaust side, but it producing a very noticable difference even in that regard sounds surprising to me. What are your exhaust mods by the way? Anyway, not being critical, but just being somewhat skeptical...

Only the charge pipe was changed. I already have a high flow filter. Nothing else was changed.

I can understand you are skeptical. I was too. I don't know what else to say other than the extra air just made everything click.
I have an AA xpipe with HFC, scoops, pc tune, and the high flow filter.

Again. I know it sounds strange....but I am honestly reporting my observations. I would never mislead any of you. It just seems to "work" for my car and exisiting mods.

I notice a difference everywhere, but especially down low to midrange. It is more responsive for sure. Also, when shifting into 3rd, I would barely ever even get a chirp. Now, I have gotten a bot sideways. The only thing different is the charge pipe. What else am I to think? Yes. Air temps are slightly lower, but not a lot. I have driven it hard and the tires are up to a reasonable "everyday" temp.

I can't think of any other variables that would effect the car like this. Thus, I believe it is the charge pipe. Feel free to ask anymore questions.

Thanks for the details. It's not that I don't believe you. You do have significant exhaust mods and a tune, and maybe there is some kind of significant interaction effect as you say. Whatever it is, enjoy!
