iv read this thread and the article on bimmerfile and i sounds like they are making BMW out to be the bad guys. this color is not exclusive to the NA market, but the disclaimer is. i think this precaution was done for the same reason we didnt get the rear fog-light switch. We didnt get the switch because BMW didnt think the average NA driver would know how to operate and use it correctly. Same can be said about the paint. They are now making us sign this disclaimer because some idiot is going to go out there with his/hers brand new FG M3 (that they had to drop an extra 5K on) and start waxing it. Then they're gonna complain about how they now own a SG M3 and how they're out 5K. I say good call on BMW's part. Anyone ever see the Top Gear review for the CSL? Clarkson said that buyers needed to sign a disclaimer because of the semi-slick tires. Not the first time they've done this. its just a business looking out for themselves, while still giving the customer exactly what they want.

the guy who bought one from us plans on never driving it. he has a huge collections of cars and a lot of M's. I think like most of you have stated if you are buying this as a daily driver car your going to regret it sooner then later. If you must have the vinyl look your better off just getting your car wrapped, that way you can go back once you get tired of it. IMO

+1!!!!
I did a lot of research on this before I decided to pull the trigger. The paint is protected just like a normal paint job. They give you the waiver to sign because inevitably, there is some dumbass out there that does nothing to protect there car, never washes it properly, leaves tar and droppings and all such all over the car, and that stuff WILL mess this paint up, so if you treat this like normal paint then, it will loss the effect. If you treat it somewhat more careful, then you will be fine. That is what makes it special and that is why there are not or never will be a 1,000 of these being driven around. It is a special paint, and if you are too lazy to take care of it, then do not get it. Pretty simple. |

I don't see any technical reason why people can't apply wax. Sure, wax will give the paint a minor increase in gloss, but it's not permanent like a polishing.

I think the finish is similar to the white aluminum (matte) finish on my BMW K1200r. With any wash products, it has gradually turned glossy over 3 years. Funny, the best thing that restores the matte quality is using Windex

I have a FG M3 purchased in the UK, I did not have to sign a waiver at all, I must say what they are asking you to do is just good car care nothing outlandish. The only dofferance is not to wax it.
I have owned a lot of BMW's and a C63 merc, all of them suffer if you leave bugs or bird lime on the paint, bird lime can eat through shinny clearcoat just as quick and will destroy the finish on any car if not removed quickly. I have not had it long so not sure how it will hold up, but if anything at the moment it seems more durable than my C63 that scratched up in no time with my cat sleeping on the bonnet and kids brushiong past it. |
