All of my M's have been less than 10miles, the latest having 7. However, I was pleasantly shocked to see only 1 mile on my 1M when I picked it up!

Non digital odo

I remember my dad buying a new 325i on 29th Feb 1988 and it had 999,997 miles on the non digital odo. I guess they set it back a bit those days so by the time you got it it would be rolled around to 0.

They should find a way to securely do the same now.

BTW the reason I remember the delivery date is we could not set the date on the OBC to the current date because it did not allow for the leap year 29th!

6 miles on mine. My job is in front of the BMW holding lot so I get to see what happens.

Cars arrive in a closed container. The truck parks outside a feet from the gate. Cars are backed out and driven into the lot. They stay there for a day or two, some longer than that. A guy comes by and sticks a dealer plate on the back and drives them to the gas station, then to the dealer.

For my particular car, it sat in the corner of an underground lot for a few days. Then they had to drive it over to get it detailed, then to vehicle delivery. It gets driven quite a bit, but it is (at least should be) reasonable amount.

My 328i had 4 miles in 2008. Strangely my M3 had 13 miles on it at delivery, hmmmm...

I'd rather take $60 off the sale price and fill it with gas myself. Next time I'll definitely be picking up at Welt. Apparently ED is unavailable now

Well technically a technician does have to "joyride" the vehicle simply because when vehicles are unloaded from the transporting truck a tech has to "PDI" it in order for it to sell... PDI means Perform Detailed Inspection.

Your car will have less miles when you take ED (probably under 1 mile) but will have seen more drivers overall than if you had taken regular US delivery. And unlike US delivery, with ED you've accepted ownership of the car. With regular dealer delivery, you can still walk into the dealership on delivery day and turn down the car if something is up.

Pick your poison. They're both really just academic exercises in my opinion. Everyone is interested in you taking delivery of your new car in as new condition as possible. esp. your dealership... it's how they get paid, and it does them no good if you're unhappy and walk away before signing the papers.

Agreed! What do you think happens to your car when you drop it off for transport back to the US? Someone has to drive it onto a truck or train, then off the truck/train at the port. Then onto the ship... You get the idea. Same issues you are concerned about on a delivery at your dealer. As alee0729 points out if something seems wrong you can refuse delivery at the dealer ere in the states. After ED, you already own the car and are then forced to fight BMW, the shipping company etc if there are any issues...

I know people get all anal and hung up on principal about this, and that's fine.

But from a *practical* standpoint it's almost a given that anyone buying these cars is going to thrash them *far worse* than the delivery staff would (and they should! Why buy an 8400rpm redline car and not push it?). These guys have their job on the line and are in and out of, to be blunt, far more expensive cars all day (hello M5, M6). I doubt many of them need to risk their livelihood over a roll in the hay with M3 number 35,000! Lol

I get the paranoia over the "new baby" but some people make it sound like the car is a scarlet letter time bomb because the guy may have taken a longer route to the dealership after getting gas!

6 miles clocked on the odo.

A better way to judge is if you still can see the wear in design on the brake rotors.
They have a really intricate black pattern before use.

If you see wear in any of those spots, that car was driven on the street, not around on a boat / inside processing etc.

I'll see if I can snag a pic to demonstrate.

90km = 56 miles

Mine was in stock at the dealership. I got a better discount on it and didn't want to wait when they had the exact model with all the options I wanted in stock. Well, except 1, but I am glad it had it because I changed my mind about it - looks better with it.

The dealer said it was new, that no one has test driven it. Could that be true? The dealership is in Canada, in a somewhat remote place - quite far from other dealerships, like maybe 40-50km, and about the same from the airport.

Is it normal to have such a milage on a "new" model in stock at the dealership?
