Fabspeed HFC won't pass emisson..

I know others have reported they had issues with CEL w/ Fabspeed HFC and i'm having the same issue.

So finally after driving around w/ a CEL for over 23 months i'm due for a emission check.

I've tried clearing just the lights and taking it for emissions but OBD2 reports not enough drive cycles and like clock work around 90~110 miles CEL will turn on. So i finally installed the o2 extenders which i got from Fabspeed shortly after i purchased the HFC and same thing CEL.

Now after I have to reinstall my stock cats/mid pipes to pass emission

not fun

Pretty much what everyone has to do at one point or another. Not sure why you feel slighted by it.

Would be nice if somebody made a high flow cat that didn't throw a CEL. Is it really that hard to develop?

HJS does make a cat, but its not the HJS cat that Fabspeed uses. According to HJS the cats are $800 ea. The new 991S exhaust by FVD has these cats and the exhaust system is almost $10k for the non titanium (ridiculous), and over $16k for the titanium.

Could buy the cats and reweld them into your current Fabspeed xpipe.

I doubt any HFC will pass Cali sniff test.
Looks like you need a 300cpi cat to not get the CEL.

I've passed a sniff test with 200cpi HJS cats with my 07 997S. AWE uses the HJS cats and it did pass, issue is the later PCars along with BMW and such use a newer DME that is more sensitve to cat changes and kick off CEL codes. If your car is up to temp it could pass (good news for us as we have to be tested with the car at full operating temp and its on a chassis dyno), issue is the CEL.

With the extenders you can squeeze by... But this to an extent will depend on cat condition.

You need to clear the CEL and then drive short city and freeway trips 5-8 miles in each, don't exceed 3,000 rpm, no large fluctuations in throttle.

There is a period between setting readiness and it throwing the cat efficiency faults if you time it right. It would be good to have a tool to scan for readiness so you can take it in the second it turns to ready, before it figures out the lower cat efficiency.

WOW!!! Great news. You obviously had someone who was willing to overlook the visual inspection.
So if 200cpi cats are good enough to pass the sniffer, why the hell does BMW have 400cpi cats followed by 200cpi cats?

Why is OP getting a CEL with the extenders? I thought people were ok with the extenders???

I would contact fabspeed and/or the shop you bought it from...they advertised that it would not have a DTC, so they need to back that up. New front section with extenders should cover it. I would expect them to cover the labor to drop/re-instal the exhaust as well. Good luck.

You have to remember that manafacturers have to control smog from cold start. In Cali. our smog test is done with the car on a chassid dyno so this isn't a issue. BTW, the car passed with just a spare margin. Also, they looked under the car and saw cats thats all they noticed. I don't know how many 997s the shop we went to get it smogged did.

I'm good for another 2 years

Mike - Yes i used the J style.

They sent me them too, I never put them on also. Wound up selling the system and getting the full Akra..

I think they are still somewhere in a drawer in the plastic wrap.
