Yep, Will Shaw formerly of Long Beach BMW and now at Nick Alexander BMW can definitely help you with this. He's done a ton of individual exteriors. I originally worked with him on my individual interior as well before he switched. Also, Philippe Kahn of South Bay BMW can help you with this as well.

A good BMW paint shop should be able to paint individual paint without any issues. I would recommend getting the front end of the car covered with clear film to prevent any nicks in the paint for the front.

For the ROTW, Logic7 is an intermediate step. Premium Sound is Logic7 on steroids. Look up DIRAC DSP, and you will see what I mean. For the ROTW, Premium Sound is known as Individual High End Audio System. |

so those of you who got bmw individual colors, did you have to pay a lot over invoice? or did you basically pay msrp for it? are dealerships less likely to give you 500 invoice for a bmw individual? also, is atlantis metallic a m specific color, or was it on other models too? |

Most people who want to order a M3 "individual" are only talking about ext & int colors for the US ..... That does not make your car a BMW Individual as the program offers many other features that are not avail to US customers.... So let's get that right..... In the US we can only get some of the individual ext colors (not all of them) and some int colors..... That is it.....

Just as a data point, be careful if you do go the Individual paint route. I ordered an E90 M3 in Moonstone for European Delivery in early August. I showed up at Die Welt to find a Barbera Red M3 at delivery. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I drove the Barbera Red M3 while in Germany and have it now in the US (just picked it up this weekend) while they build and deliver the Moonstone M3. The factory shutdown in August didn't help with things, although I do get a 2011.5 model now.
The problem with Individual colors (AFAIK) is that you can't tell on the build sheet, bmwusa.com online status page, etc. what the actual color is. All it lists is "special order color" or something to that effect. It isn't even clear where the mix-up in the paint happened, whether on the dealer end, the factory, or somewhere in between, so I don't have any guidance on how to prevent this from happening to others going down this route. |

I have no affiliation with him but I did meet him once, and he is quite nice...anyway, Will Shaw has done quite a few individual orders. He'd be the guy I'd contact if I had questions, wanted to place an order, etc. Just my .02 but the guy was great to me.

Crunge, could you post some pics of your M3 sedan? What interior does it have? Since you will be getting a new M3 in Moonstone, what happens to your current car?

The interior color is Extended Black Novillo. It's a nice car but it isn't what I ordered. I'll turn in the Barbera Red when I receive the Moonstone, currently slated for sometime in November. Let me know if there's interest in more/better photos; I can probably take some this weekend. |

Thanks for the pics! Post some more if you can. I was just curious to see how a M looks in this color. In this picture it sort of looks like Indianapolis Red that was available on the M5 and M6, but if you wanted Moonstone I can see why you would not be happy with this color. Good luck with the new car, Moonstone is a great color.
Is BMW giving you anything for the mix up? Any discount on the new car? I guess the new car is enough but I was just curious.

wtf? I would be pissed too. Must have been some data-entry error? I wonder who'll take the hit for this, the dealer or BMW? You probably have to turn this back to the dealer, then they try to resale it again? The red is very unique and I'd love to see who actually likes it. I for one will not touch that color.
Any ways, I noticed you're in NoVa. Come to Cars and Coffee at Katie's Coffee House on Saturday at 8:30, i'd love to see the car in person. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=408181 Quote:

Cringe, you'll really enjoy Moonstone when you finally get your M3 sedan painted in that color. Trust me, I know.
OP and others, I confirm others' remarks when specifying Individual paint color: a dealer with experience will have no trouble getting it done. In my case it took 2 days for order approval from BMW Distribution, then 6 weeks for it to be built (next-month allocation slot was available). I also paid invoice for the upgrade. Also remember that you avoid the metallic paint option (~$500) when opting for Individual.

Moonstone is an amazing color and you will absolutely love it. The cool thing about it is you will appreciate the color more once you have owned it for a while. I had my 2009 Moonstone for 3 months and have had my 2011 for 4 months. Even after 7 months of combined ownership of the Moonstone paint color it still shows me new tones and shades all the time. It is such a dynamic color and looks just perfect on the M3 Sedan. Quote:
Individual colors aren't rocket science, I just think your dealer inputted the wrong paint code in the order. All BMW's have a paint code both Individual and Regular colors. The only difference for Individual paint is the added cost and the delay (only applies sometimes, had no wait on the 09 but about 2 months on the 11). The paint code for Moonstone is X04/7 if you want to confirm it with your dealer. |
