Southern BC Destination Highways Tour - 56k drives an RV
I have a book. It's called Destination Highways BC. Unlike other travel books that tells you what to do after you get somewhere, this one focuses on the roads that get you there. 85 best driving (and riding, as the book was written by a couple of motorcyclists) roads in Southern BC are scored based on twistiness, pavement, traffic, scenery and so forth, then ranked based on the overall score. Since owning the book, I've been looking for opportunities to tick off as many of these DHs as I can.
The 2 Vancouver Island trips I've done were based on information found on the book, with DH4 (Gold River Hwy), DH12 (Port Alice Hwy) and DH18 (West Coast Hwy) being highlights. Our club's annual Duffey Lake trip contains a smattering of DHs, centering around DH3 (Duffey Lake Rd). I've also did a day trip out to Kelowna just to drive DH7 (West Kettle Valley Hwy). Still, the fabled DH1 remained out of reach, until the past long weekend afforded me the opportunity to get all the way out to Creston, while stringing together as many DHs as I can for a circle tour. It all came together, and here's the result: Total mileage: 1750km. Total gas spent: 197.791L costing $240.85. Worth it? Have a look at the pictures, and you decide Camera used was Canon 50D + Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM + B+W Circular Polarizer. Car? Melbourne Red 2008 BMW M3 Sedan. ----- Day 1: Just a couple of quick shots in a rest stop alongside Hwy 5. ----- Day 1: DH19, Coldwater Rd. Description: http://www.destinationhighways.com/d...teau/19sum.htm I guess this is what my car would look like if I left it outside for a bit...? |

...and then, home to Vancouver. Dunno, something about this car that just inspires confidence, as you just know that you'll be able to have fun, be it on the straightest highways (where passing power, the well-designed seats, satellite radio and the well-sorted suspension helped) or the twistiest roads (where this car can and will carve corners with the best of them), all this while being able to carry 3 more people and all their luggage.
Most versatile car in the world when you keep it on the pavement? I think so Is it ever any doubt that it's one of the best car money can buy? Anyways, that's it for pictures. Hope you've enjoyed them as much as I've enjoyed driving there and taking them. Do pick up the book, though; look at the places it took me Especially if you're in Washington State and NorCal, they have the same type of books for those 2 regions, and they're working on a SoCal one right now as well. Is it worth it? Well, look at how much fun I'm having? |

I wish I could afford to live in Vancouver, it is arguably one of the most beautiful (in my mind it is) and most expensive places (to live) in North America. The wife and I take annual trips there and always talk about moving there someday.
Great pictures!!!! |
