How easy is it to steal a M3?!
I only ask because last Friday, one of my cars was stolen from me. Heartbroken as this car holds great sentimental value to me.
I have 6 cars in my garage, now 5 including the M and I'm wondering how many of "the club" do I have to buy? Does the m require a club? I've just installed motion detectors in my garage but still u never know. Thanks |

I can't comment on the actually stealing of or how easy it is to take a car. I can comment on how easy most cars can be broken into without breaking anything. I can get into most cars with a new lockout kit in about 30 seconds or less. I did have a person that locked their keys in the trunk and I think it was a newer honda. Well as I tried to unlock it using the power locks the car alarm went off and I think it disabled the power locks (the car thinking it was getting broken into). Thats about the only car baring the ones I never touched that I haven't gotten into. Its crazy how fast one can get into a car without breaking a window or busting something. Again literally 30 seconds or less.

Sorry for your loss, and hopefully the sucker who had no heart to do something so terrible gets hit with karma.

Sorry to hear about having to deal with that. I've a car of mine stolen TWICE... It really sucks have to go through that, especially if the car had a lot of value to you.
As far as how hard a BMW is to steal, I think the others have it right. They can be broken into like any car. It isn't hard to defeat a tumbler lock or bash in a window or use a half dozen little tricks to get in. However, stealing the car I believe will be quite a bit more difficult than a Honda. I think the key may be chipped? Not 100% sure but I don't think you can start the car with just turning the ignition. There is more to it than that. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in...

With the convertible's recent aggressive lease rate and residuals, I feel like I stole one

I think the alarm will at least go off!
Btw you might also consider Lo-Jack's early warning system if you are really worried. Lo-jack itself isn't that useful as the police have to be using it. However, the early warning system will call you if it detects your car being moved at all when your key fob is out of range (more than like 20 feet away). I had this on my EVO for peace of mind. At least this way if someone is trying to move your car, you will know and might be able to do something about it. Or call the police immediately and hope they actually do something (auto theft in progress they are more likely to do something about because they might get to chase someone) The cost is about 1000 dollars for the system, no monthly fee.

its not hard to steal the M3 but usually people dont bother to hot wire or take your M3 as it has no value to them. unless you leave stuff inside so they probably just going to break your window and take whatever you have.
I always hide my radar and ipod stuff out of sight just to avoid any issues. When my wheels got stolen they took all wheels without a single scratch on the car and drop the car to the ground without any noise. probably took them less than 10 minutes but DAMN THEY WERE GOOD. fawkin GOOD even my dog did not hear them. so yes M3 is not hard to steal.

Insurance paid to fix/replace everything but it was a major PITA and the shop they recommended couldn't match the paint on the door so it looked goofy. So yeah, make sure there's absolutely nothing of value visible in your car. I left the empty glovebox open for years after that. I do still lock my car even when it's in my garage.

OP, look for your car keys make sure you have the complete sets for all of them because that is how thieves usually steal these newer cars other than flatbedding them. if thats the case its probably on its way out of the country by now.

isnt there a thing or chip code in the key fob that has to match the ignition or it wont start? like a revolving code or something? so the car cant be hotwired?
and if they do manage to steal it somehow, couldnt you just call BMW assist to locate the car in a matter of seconds? they advertised that on the bmw assist brochure... |

I had the most useless thieves try and break into my 750 to try to find 'valuables' (unless you consider a pack of orbit and 70 cents in change valuables).
They tried smashing the glass and picking the locks, though it didn't work. They managed to smash the small piece of glass in the rear door and tried picking the lock up, of course it didn't open so they left it. That happened in August, I'm still trying to get Geico's stupid recommended shop to seal the glass right as there's a draft. If someone wants to take it and aren't utterly incompetent like those on my 750 and some other poster's Mustang, they'll take it. |
