GAS GUZZLER TAX
Unadjusted MPG (combined)* Tax
at least 22.5 No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5 $1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5 $1300
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5 $1700

at least 15.5, but less than 16.5 $3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5 $4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5 $5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5 $6400
less than 12.5 $7700
I suspect it will do better than 20mpg during civilized driving.

They got me all confused here. The 2006 base M3 sold for $48900. What are they talking about exactly? With comparable options or something?
Agreed. Noticed the same thing. They mentioned the CS package earlier, but that only brings it to around $53k. Lets hope they are talking w/options.

When watching the video they commented on the squeaking brakes... Do you think that is due to the fact that they were man handling the car for days and days before? Just curious

"....we blasted to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds
The surface wasn’t ideal, however, and we expect even better numbers once we get one to our usual test track. "

So we can expect 4.2 and possibly a 4.1 0-60 then. That's on stock tires. Maybe a solid 4.1 or 4.0 on sticky's?

".94g on the skidpad"

Sorry, even with 19's on the 335i and a Proceed, the 335i gets smoked and that's BEFORE an M3 gets modded....

I am thoroughly enjoying eating my own excrement on all of my past M3 bashings. I was WRONG! Hooray!!

It sounds like you had a chance to medidate, calm down, and see the wisdom of reason. You, too, like many others, have been tamed by the mighty m3post forum. From now on, your focus should be to learn more, and only to learn more, so that when the ultimate driving machine reaches our shores, you will be ready to experience the 4-flat 0-60 with sticky tires on a track for yourself...

it looks like the bigger and more reputable publications are giving the M3 strong reviews.... all with the exception of steering, of course.

I completely agree.

Also Car and Driver run their instrumented tests such that the 0 to 60 time doesn't start until after the front tires have moved 12 inches!!
You may say, 12 inches is nothing, but I can tell you that the first 12 inches in my G35 is definitely the slowest when pulling from a dead stop with the traction control off for a maximum accel hole run.

Now, once the good performance reviews are coming in, members of this board resort to attacking other members. Well played. Go back to your Audi/Infiniti boards, no need for you being here with that kind of attitude.

Not really. If I don't like how the car compares to the RS4 (not that I would buy the RS4) when I go on a real test drive, or if BMW prices it too high, I'm not buying.

Well Mr. I Drive a Maxima and am Internet Forums Warlord, let me tell you a little something about actually owning and driving a high performance sport coupe versus a nice, functional sedan.

First of all, the 0 to 60 numbers we read in the reviews are the absolute BEST times accomplished after multiple runs by professional or realtively professional car drivers/auto magazine testers who drive for a living. And these times are being accomplished on a closed-course track. So when C/D says 0 to 60 of 4.4 seconds, that is THE BEST this car is capable of.

Am I excited about 4.4, absolutely. Do I think I could get 4.4 out of the M3, probably not. Also, I think most owners of the new M3 will also not be able to get 4.4 out of this car and would be LUCKY to get 5 flat out of it, which is what I was agreeing with. 0.6 seconds is esentially the differance between the perfect launch and a good launch.

Because I doubt you know, when you launch one of these cars, its not just revving to redline and dumping/popping the clutch. You need to find the best rev range for the engine at launch and modulate the clutch and throttle while initially accelerating to put maximum power to the rear wheels without excessive wheel spin, on one end of the spectrum, or power lull on the other end of the spectrum from having everything hooked up below your maximum power band.

Going 0 to 60 in one of these cars is NOTHING like stomping on the gas in your Maxima.

You would do yourself a great service by first reading the thing that you are commenting on. Conclusion: you don't know what you're talking about...

And, easy on the personal insults. How do you know Epacy so well? I hope you approach your patients with more of an open-mind.

"Dropping the hammer from a standstill, we blasted to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, 0.4 second quicker than the previous car, with the quarter-mile dispatched in 12.9 seconds at 111 mph, an even larger, 0.7-second gain. The surface wasn’t ideal, however, and we expect even better numbers once we get one to our usual test track." -C&D M3 First Drive, C&D website.

Now, I plan on owning an e92 M3 a year from now. I'm an anesthesiologist and have worked my ass off my whole life to have the wherewithal to buy this car. I have serious doubts over your ability to ever purchase the car based on your immature posts. Perhaps your parents will buy it for you, but until then have fun in your parents' basement at your computer and with your Maxima.
Does my opinion count? Actually if you knew what you were talking about, they take the average 0 to 60 time and the average 1/4 mile time, and post that in their magazines. Not the best. I drive a performance coupe, it ran 13.4 bone stock, it came with 350 tq also, which is probably harder to launch than a 295 tq m3. When I got the car the magazines were reporting it ran 13.6 in the 1/4 mile. I'm far from a professional driver. Also, I've read letters where people have asked why the magazine times are so slow and the magazine replied by saying, we don't drive the car as hard as we can in the 1/4 mile, we like to post times that an average driver can achieve with a little bit of practice. In other words, I plan on getting a 12.7 in my bone stock m3.
