Please go test drive a 911. I mean really drive it, not just putting around in traffic. I don't even care what model you choose. You cannot understand what they are capable of until you drive one for yourself.

Porsches are very reliable cars and are topped only by Lexus when it comes to reliable luxury cars but none of us would drive a Toyota lol. The turbo pdk was engineered to exceed over 3900 launches. To put that into perspective When the gtr was released it was rated for 7 and doing so would void your warranty. A 911 turbo is bulletproof!

I love the way they feel and it would be something different but the practicality killed it for me. If that weren't the issue, I would be in one.
Honestly think I would rather go Cayman GTS over any 911 other than GT3 however |

Just buy an M3 (35-45k), supercharge it, and enjoy it. The DCT feels incredible when at its sportiest setting, you feel the kick from the downshifts and the blips from the upshifts are amazing as well. My friend has a 2004 Porsche Turbo, that has been chipped and tuned by GMG (one of the best Porsche tuners, I believe Longboarder took his 2011 Turbo S there as well). It's well over 560hp... Regardless, He has driven many M3's and has said that the M3 is a more emotional and involved car, while the Porsche is perfect, with surgical steering and refined setup. As said previously the PDK is flawless, almost too good. The shifts are instantaneous and it feels like an automatic. While the DCT feels reminiscent of a manual transmission when changing gears (only at the sportiest setting mind you). All in all, I'd go for the M3 if you have less than 100-130k to spend on a car, it's more fun in my opinion as well. Plus the S65 sounds amazing.

I agree with this post. The Porsche almost feels TOO perfect. The M3 retains that raw feeling while being very good, same way I feel about the C63, just a by more raw and less perfect. |

can't deny porsche, their strong sense of character both in design + driving is something everyone wants to experience at least once in their lifetime
though the 991 series is known to have more cylinder head scratching issues (mainly due to the symmetry of boxer engine) than 997 or prior cars (reason why some still prefer the 997 + 6MT as their dream car), overall reliability is known to be pretty good... i mean they've been building this beetle for 10000 yrs. i think with the 991.2 with turbo engines and the "easy" tuning capability of turbo boost modifications, in 2~3 yrs used carerra and carerra s ("affordable") in $50~60K market will be very hot

I didn't read a single sentence in this thread...but my answer is:
911 No matter which aspect you compare the 911 to with the M3, the 911 is better, with the exception of how many hookers you can stuff in your trunk. The M3 wins in that situation only.

I drove a 997.2 S on twisty roads out here. It was an interesting sensation since it was my first time driving rear-engine, but it didn't wow me relative to my E92 M3 the way I was expecting a car that cost $125K new would have. It wasn't disappointing, just not as good as I'd hoped. Maybe if I'd been on a track things would have been different. The only other Porsche I've driven is my current GT4, for which I already wrote a long comparison to my former E92, linked in my signature.
I'll say this, though: Don't get suckered into buying a used car at a cut rate. Even if a used 911 Turbo costs $50K, you'll still be paying to maintain a $150K+ car, so make sure you're ready and willing to do that before you pull the trigger.

I want a car that can do it all. In that respect, the M3 is miles ahead of all 911. Looks, sound, power, handling, practicality, reliability, exclusivity, affordability. In that order. The E92 M3 manual ticks all those boxes that no other car comes close.

In the daily drive I can bring business assosiates with luggage in the car with no problem and enjoy the drive on the way. How can you do all this in a 911? For me the best car is the M3. It is not even in the same universe as the 911 turbo, it is in my universe;-) |

For me, I don't drive that much and every time I do I want a car that is exiting to drive. I could not live with a 911, because it would be a once in a while car. That's where the M3 E92 shines. It is versatile and still a special car. I enjoy every moment I drive it and I can haul luggage and people in it. But this is me and luckily we are not all the same. |

I have had the E90M3 for over 5 years and am thinking about a Porsche in a couple of years, this time maybe a 997TT instead of a 996TT. The 991TT will likely still be out of my range. But I like the value proposition and you obviously know these cars. Maybe a 2013 E90M3 with DCT and ESS VT650 is the better value. I want no less than 600 rwhp, so whatever I buy would have to get modded. My current toy is a turbo E36M3 that has done a best of 675 rwhp/575 lbs rwtq SAE Dynojet wand the E90M3 is the comfy cruiser. Any comments on a used Audi RS7? A comfy cruiser, easily modded to 600 rwhp, and AWD. I drive year round and since I can have only a limited number of cars, want to drive a fun car in winter. |

Audi was by far the WORST reliable car for me...Range Rover is surprisingly reliable (the good old Rover V8 4.2 HSE engine), the notorious air shocks are holding up well and mechanically nothing wrong depsite yrs of winter + daily abuse. but audi....let's jus stop here..
