Kudos to BMW

So often on this forum we read about blown motors, bad bearings, failed throttle actuators, etc etc that I thought I'd take the time on a day off to give some props to BMW for such a fine machine. Just got back from a nice little mountain trip with the family and I was again reminded of why I bought this car and how much I love it. In the last 6 mos. we've put about 3000 miles on it just running mountain roads. The car has seen close to 40 passes down the tail of the dragon, multiple runs of the snake, the devil's triangle and whip, hundreds of miles on the less than stellar pavement of the Blue ridge Pkwy and many lesser known but awesome roads. During this time the car never hiccupped, over heated, faded it's brakes, missed a shift or any kind of beat in general. The oil temp never passes 220 and the coolant never goes past 195. In comparison my daughter's 2014 Camaro that followed us this weekend was running oil temps of 235 with brake fade and coolant around 215 after just a few miles of hard running. Not to mention the difference in road handling and acceleration. Hopping back and forth between the two cars just highlighted what a true performance machine this car is. Just wanted to say kudos to BMW on a job well done.....even if it might blow up tomorrow

Having just got back from a weekend attacking incredibly technical mountain roads, I couldn't agree more. Out of the box, this car simply kicks so much ass. BMW nailed this chassis' poise and balance and mated a perfect power train to it. Having owned multiple heavily modified BMWs in the past with various spring/shock/coilover/differential setups, this car simply blows my mind with how capable it is in stock form.

Long live the E9X M!

You never fully appreciate all that our cars offer until you spend time driving other cars. You get so used to the balance, steering feel, and that sweet V8 that it takes a few days driving another car to remember how special it really is.

I think the styling is spot on. I have a mineral white e93 m3 and it turns heads everywhere. I'm not a fan of the dct but had to get it in case my wife ever needs to drive it. But yes I'm loving this car.

That's interesting about the oil/coolant temp because I get passed 210 by barely pushing the car.

This is one of the best things about having a daily driver that is not my M3. I drive my very decent Accord sport 6mt when I'm hauling the soccer gang, threat of bad weather, etc - and then jump in the M and it feels special like it did the first week of ownership.

This is very true. There are a lot of nice cars in Austin, period, especially on a per capita basis, and I don't think anyone really takes much note of my car.

I was pleased to have driven an F80 M3 this weekend and, while so very fast and while I enjoyed the new technology, I really feel no need to upgrade at this point. Happy just to enjoy the car I have.

Agree 100% I have always thought that you don't appreciate a BMW until you drive a different car. You notice the BMW is nice and handles well when you first drive one but just how much better it is becomes apparent only when you get in something else.

Must be the locale....around here I get looks and thumbs up daily. Was at the gas station an hour ago and had a college kid come up and talk to me about it for 10 minutes. He was giddy!

I'm guessing on 220 of course, but it sounds better than "an eighth of an inch past 210".

I live in a wealthier part of Charlotte but it's more family oriented. So the Range Rover/g class etc are common. For some reason I honestly don't see too many m3s. Most people in my area aren't driving sports cars though due to having kids. So I see plenty or 4 door maseratis and 5 series etc.

It is ironic that there are so many roads in the Bible belt with devil in the name. I didn't even mention the highway to hell and road to no where.

Yeah I sometimes forget we are in the heart of the Bible Belt. I'm from philly and been living here for 4 years now. Where I'm at though it's more of a melting pot with the majority of people being northerners
