Diagnose my beasts spark plugs and codes.
Kind of weird. Basically the front four cylinders are running very lean. I started with 8 plugs and 1 MAF meter.
Car was throwing... Bank B (passenger side) MAF meter Misfire under 1500 RPMs Multiple misfire without cutoff Multiple misfire with cutoff Misfires 1,2,3,4,5,7 with and without cutoff Also found a torn ignition coil ground that I fixed as well. Let me know what you guys think. I suspected bad coil packs here are packs 4,3,2,1 shown below. |

Hmm...that does seem like quite the odd issue.
What tool did you use to read these codes? Mileage/spec of the vehicle? I'm assuming it's out of warranty otherwise you probably wouldn't be doing any of this stuff?

I think you would have more success posting this on an E39 M5 technical forum. Most of us here don't have too much knowledge of the E39 M5 and without seeing the car it would be very difficult to troubleshoot this for you. It is very possible that someone on an E39 M5 forum could be aware of an issue(s) that could cause these symptoms and will offer you more help.
To me it seems like you may have an intake leak of some sort which is allowing un-metered air into the front 4 cylinders. Check gaskets, vacuum hoses, etc. that could be the source of an air leak. Just to note, bad coils usually would not cause the affected cylinders to burn lean, on the contrary, in the majority of cases it would cause those cylinders to burn rich. Best of luck with getting it fixed!

I would try m5board.com, there is quite a bit of E39 M5 knowledge there.

if I had to guess from those pics, #4 might not be firing, so I would look into number 4 cyl. also check for traces of oil in the coil pack area. I had a few that had valve cover gasket leaking oil on te coil pack causing mis fire.
