So my wife drove the M3 for the first time...

And promptly pulled in too far into a parking space and hooked the bottom of the front bumper on the curb which then did this when she backed the car up:

I don't see any screws so I assume this is glued. Any ideas on how to re-attach?

Time for a Vorsteiner GTS V lip. That'll take care of that rip. Tell her it's her fault.

I hope the lesson she learned is to always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS back the car into parking spaces.

If it were me, I'd go to Lowes/Home Depot and get 2 small alum brackets, put one on the topside, one on the bottom, and reattach. Like the brackets are 2 pieces of bread and the broken tray is the meat in-between.

That part costs $165 - I know, because I had to replace it. It looks like you have cracks in the plastic holding it to the front. At high speeds (aka the track), this could act as a ramjet-like duct, funneling air, as well as degrading cooling performance. This basically became a snow-plow like thing for me because the speeds at Willow Springs managed to rip this all the way down. It's great if you can glue it on, or better yet bolt it back on with the fasteners like whats77inaname suggested. Tape does not work - I tried

The funny thing is I didn't realize how critical this piece was for cooling your oil until I experienced high temps and even limp mode at a lower speed track, where the maximum speed was around ~110 mph, but lots of corners. When you look towards the front, you'll see a rubber gasket-like sleeve that secures this part to the bottom of the oil radiator. Yours looks disturbed - make sure you can secure this to the bottom.

What I've noticed is that most people just pull into a parking spot until the front wheel(s) hit something to stop the car (curb, parking stop). These folks either never had a low car or a front air dam (or don't care)... Now that video cams are so cheap, they need to add them to the front of cars that sit low enough to interfere with curbs and such. Even if you are paranoid about these impacts they eventually seem to happen, especially when it's dark or you're distracted.

Ouch I wouldn't recommend spending money on such an expensive lip right away , maybe she should get used to the car first before you spend that much money on body parts

Some comments here were far too hilarious lol!

Low M3 + Women = New Parts

My girl almost fried my clutch trying to get the car rolling from 0 lol. Revved till 3000 and SLOWLY started to let the clutch off. I'm like OKAY, enough for today.

Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. I took another look and it looks like the semi-rigid felt-like material is also torn away from it's anchors and the tray is also cracked. So this might require more than just a simple patch job.

Get a curb alert; $139 mounted ir sensor, beeps when at the right distance to a curb stop. I have had one for 5 years of ownership, have not hit any curbs parking front size and still my favorite mod.

anyone here that lets their girlfriend, wife, hooker, escort, etc. "learn" on their car, well lets just say the lessons learned can sometimes be painful for others to watch

This is so hilarious. My wife drifts "her" M3 when she feels like having fun, has run the BMW Club Europa 'Ring school twice, and was an instructor (and had a club racing license). She also can change race wheels and torque them properly. To top it off, she could drive the crew cab dually w/26' enclosed trailer we had with no problems whatsoever.

Conclusion: You guys just suck at picking wives.

OP: if the pieces overlap at all, you could pop-rivet them together. If they don't, then get some sheet stock and pop-rivet pieces of it (top and bottom) to sandwich the part (like red priest suggested).

Unfortunately, I've had to replace the under tray 3 times already. Going up or back steep driveways does this, as well as pulling into entrances to stores, especially in an urban area. One of the downsides of owning this car.

Just drill four small holes and cross stitch with zip ties. Problem solved!
