i work for a dealer myself and to be honest the reason dealers ask for more deposit is to make sure customers are serious. If specing the car to your personal spec with 5k deposit your less likely to cancel. And to be honest asking for 10% deposit as a minimum isnt a lot when your talking a £50k + car. I mean we take minimum 2k deposit on any new car ordered. if its a weird spec even more... If you can afford a £50grand car im sure £5k is a piss in the ocean.
