Question for Competition package (ZCP) tire gurus

As many are already aware, the tires that come with the Competition Package 359M (8-spoke) 19" wheels are the same specs and dimensions (245/35ZR19 front and 265/35ZR19 rear) as those that come with the forged 220M (10-spoke) 19" wheels. This is despite the fact that the ZCP wheels are wider at 19x9 front and 19x10 rear compared to 19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 rear for the forged ones. Needless to say this leads to overstretched tires at all four corners that, although apparently completely safe and within the tire manufacturer's suggested rim width range, look like bloated Cheerios as opposed to menacing steamrollers while at the same time providing little to no curb rash protection .

My question to all the tire gurus is: Has anyone taken the rear ZCP tires (265/35ZR19) and moved them to the 9" wide front 359M wheels and completely replaced the rear tires with an appropriately larger sized tire onto the 10" wide rear 359M wheels? And if so, should the rear tire size be 275/35 or 275/30 or 285/35 or 285/30? And to those that may say just buy new wheels, I like the 359M's, even if they aren't forged.

265-35-19 will not fit on the front you will rub badly! The overall diameter of the 265-35-19 is 26.3 you need to get M3 GTS size tires 255-35-19 front and 285-30-19 rear

255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear sounds right, IMO.
255 Front - 285 rear may increase understeer tendancy.
On the other hand, 255 front will increase initial bite and turn-in response and 275 rear will keep the rear planted.
Just my thoughts..

Believe it or not, you could actually put those stock tires on wheels a half inch wider: 9.5F 10.5R. So they're not even at the limit of what you can do with complete safety. Let alone actually stretching a tire (not recommended, but if you haven't seen what some of the VW guys do, it's worth taking a look just for novelty.)

So 255/35R19 front should be fine (265/35 would rub and mentioned above). For most I would say 275/35 Rear for balance, but you might want the 285/30 if 'steamroller' is the look you want.

Thanks x 4. Very much appreciated. I hadn't thought of the M3 GTS tires. That makes perfect sense. They are the exact same wheels (except for color), correct?

Once the tread depths are worn on the original stock tires, I'll definitely consider going wider.

Hi Ben - what do you think of 275/30 front with a 5-10mm spacer in the front and 295/30 rear?

Thx!

I wonder if 305/30/19 would fit in the rear? It's a little closer to the stock tire size (0.1" shorter diameter versus 0.3" shorter for the 295/30)..though for Michelin PS2's it's $120 more per tire from TireRack

Correct. I'll be running 255f and 275r on the 359M wheels on Friday with an ever so subtle drop, and I don't expect any problems.

We actually did quite a few things to this Competition package M3. If you wish to just check the link on it, you can find it here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388787

On top of some of the other things we did, we actually also changed the tires, like you wish to do in your situation. We changed them to 255/295 Yokohama AD08 tires and then added a 10mm spacer up front. Here's the end result:

I hope that helps, and PM me if you have any questions on that setup.

Question

So, it sounds like the 'optimal' setup is 255/35/19 up front and 275/30/19 in the rear with stock ZCP wheels. Would going with 285/35/19 in the rear actually induce some understeer?

Are the M3 GTS wheels available for order yet?

Lastly, what is the best tire for the M3 going with the above mentioned sizes?

I'd suggest 275/35 in the rear and 255/35 in the front, as this retains the same width difference as the OEM setup. It also maintains the closest outside diameter size to the OEM rear tire.

Here's my setup:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412085

GTS wheels are not available for order yet.

255/285 is pretty balanced as far as understeer oversteer goes IMO.

How did you get the Yoko's AD08 in 285? Tirerack does not offer the tire in that size.

Do you guys think a square setup with the ZCP rear wheels all around with 275/30 AD08s would work with a bit of negative camber?

You looking to track your car? I would only do negative camber if I were going to track it.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but Perilli PZero 255/35/19s for the front vary in tread width from 7.9 inches to 9.5 inches and in overall diameter from 25.4 to 26.2 inches. The OEM 245/35/19 Pirelli Zeros have a tread width of 8.4 inches and a diameter of 25.9 inches. My question is: Will the largest of the 255/35/19s with a 9.5 inch tread width and a rolling diameter of 26.2 inches fit on the front of the E92 Competition Package Coupe without rubbing? Others here have said that the 265/35/19s will rub and they are only marginally larger with a tread width of 9.7 inches and a diameter of 26.3 inches.

Both my previous 335is and current E92 ZCP DCT M3 were delivered with Pirelli P Zeros. My two previous E93 M3s were delivered with Continentals.

I run the Yokohama AD08R on my ZCP sedan which has an even wider tread width. Their 255/35R19 has a tread width of 9.9" and overall diameter of 26.1", and the 275/35R19 out back has tread width of 10.6" and overall diameter of 26.6". They do not rub but the wheel wells are definitely FULL. The AD08R has a very squared-off sidewall which gives it that extra bit of width for its size. (my 275s have 0.1" more tread width than the GTS's P-Zero 285/30R19s, actually)
