I'm trying to convince him to have a Karaoke and mini-bar setup. There's already a fridge, table, and chairs.

i think i found a good deal. http://www.valueplasma.com/productde...productid=3135 price shown is w/ free shipping. but is there a noticable difference or worth buying to the 82 model shown here? http://www.butterflyphoto.com/1/LC52...D82U_52_LCD_TV

The Sharp 52" screen looks great. However, there have been quite a few complains regarding horizontal and vertical 'banding' that becomes visible only under certain conditions. Check this link http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-a...3.html?tag=lst

I'm not 100% sure about the difference between the LC52D62U/82U/92U, but they should be minimal. You may want to check the Sharp site.

to OP, it all just depends what you intend to you use it for...I originally stumpled across the same problems...

resolutions: 1080p > 1080i > 720p

if you're planning on getting a hd tv receiver, it doesn't matter if it's 720p or 1080, max out from what I'm told is 720p...but if you're doing gaming and watching hd dvd or blu-rays, 1080p is the best to go.

since you mentioned about plugging in all those game systems, ideally you don't want to go over 40", 42" max and preferably a lcd...

if you're mainly going to watch tv or movies, then anything above 40" is good and preferably a plasma tv...

in conclusion: plasma has always been known to be the best, but lcd has recently slowly caught up and rear projectors have never really been a big factor except for pricing..

watching tv/movies: 40"+, 1080p Plasma

playing games: 40"-42", 1080p LCD

Hope that helps

You don't watch true 1080p at 40-42" FYI.

ok guys i need a tv but here is the problem. i have no clue what on earth what to get. dlp, lcd, plasma. yes i will be hooking up all the goodies, ps3, 360, wii, etc. what is the best bang for the buck here with the best quality and reliablity. basically what should i go with?
LCD. Sams Club tends to have good deals. Plasmas are heavier, not as bright, use more power, and don't last as long. They are on their way out.

Quote:
lastly what is the deal with the 780p and 1080p. bigger the better?
Yes, get 1920x1080p if possible.

Quote:
what do you guys think about a wall mount compared to a table as well?
Depends on your particular room. You probably want the center of the screen to be eye level when sitting down. Same thing with the main speakers (if you have speakers).

guys thanks for all your help. i closed on a deal today and expect delivery on monday. because it is a downstairs tv (entertaining room so to say) i need a big tv for both family and me to play games on. so we got the sony bravia 52" lcd. hooking up my 360 and ps3 and maybe in future wii to it. since ps3 can play blu-ray dvd im set on that too. no wall mount but i bought a $60 table from ikea which was a deal saver compared to the $700 table set they were trying to sell me at the store. using my bose 3-2-1 system and i should be fine.

thanks once again to the e90post .

Congrats. Sony Bravia's cost a premium but are very nice units. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for years to come.

I just picked up the Sony Bravia today. 40" was on sale at Fry's for $1499. It just fits in my cabinet. I also bought a Sony DVD player that converts up to 1080 and included the HDMI cable for $99 at Costco. While I was at Costco I also bought that Planet Earth DVD set. O!!!M!!!!!GOD is this beautiful!!!!! It's been a long time since I sat in front of a TV for 5+ hours.

I love my 50 inch Pioneer Plasma. You can't beat the picture. If you're looking for the best, it's Pioneer.

HDMI cable is just a high density new connector for both video and audio that maintains the 1080 quality. I think the acronym is High Density Multimedia Interface.
Planet Earth is 6 CDs, with 3 episodes per CD, from what I can tell so far. Each episode is about 48 minutes, plus another 10-12 of the diary for that episode on how it was made. It was $51 at Costco.
