M-dct delayed

According to bmw uk the M-dct tranny is delayed into Q2 of 2008. I found this out last week following a call to the uk main dealer. The sales manager said that no exact news is available on when launch will be.

This is terrible news, but i'm stuck now. If i changed to MT i would still have a wait.

Was anybody expecting it before Q2 2008?

Also, lots of people have been pulling out of taking the first cars because they want to wait for the DCT, so this may be the dealer trying to sound pessimistic about the DCT being delayed.

I think some of the US guys had their hopes set on a spring launch with both trannys being available

Good point about the dealer

Originally March 2008. Now Q2 but that could be as late as June. Either way it shows that the development is ongoing and the date is not fixed. Just increases the wait

I have heard the same thing from my dealer. To be honest, I was not sure whether they are simply trying to stop people from changing their orders to DCT from 6MT. I was also told that they are not sure whether it will actually be DCT or SMG when it does come out. Personally I'm taking some of this with a liberal pinch of salt. (I've ordered 6MT anyway...)

UK press release confirmed it will be DCT. As per usual dealers either know jack shit or they just chat BS.

Agreed, they all talk BS and know next to nothing about the cars. I referred to M-dct and the response was "m what?". They frequently refer to smg. I also agree that the delay might be a ploy.

Not sure if I can delay my Military Sales order long enough to get MDCT if the launch is in June.

I kinda feel like this is BS. BMW doesnt usually encounter delays in production. My guess is either someone doesnt know what they were talking about, or the launch has always been set for June.

Has this press release been posted? I don't recall anything official from BMW confirming DCT.

From all that I have read it certainly sounds like the M3 will debut in the USA in Spring and M-DCT is supposed to be standard for the US market with 6MT "for the purists" as a no cost option.... Use logic that is why USA is only getting them next year...... I mean who puts USA last!!!!!!!! Its because of the way the want it to come out and I seriously doubt that they will make it come out any later to the US market!!! Maybe the rest of us will have to then wait for US market to settle a little before we can get M-DCT option as obviously not enough to go around!? Makes a little sense

A delay will be difficult for those wanting the DCT configuration. However, I take my hat off to BMW for taking the higher road in making sure the transmission is right before releasing it as opposed to releasing it with some question marks. Easy for my to say, since I am leaning toward 6MT.

Disappointing for sure

Agree strongly that generally:
-Dealers do not know sh%^
-Dealers will lie to get their allocations of 6MT cars sold

Oh well. If it is true not the end of the world. It will be hard seeing folks cruising around here in the US while I sit and wait. But I am sold on M-DCT so I'll just keep waiting and waiting. Heck we have to wait so long after folks in Europe get 1st deliveries maybe it won't seem like too much longer.

South: What is your source of confirmation of this rumor?

All this being said I do think BMW will push as hard and fast as possible to get this transmission tested, integrated and productized. They want the revenue from what will be a fairly pricey option and they really need the automatic mode in the DCT for the lazy folks and folks buying for status only.

(That wasn't that bad was it south?)

It's not a source. It's just that I "heard" the same. So can't say for sure that DCT will be delayed, but it's possible...

I'm sure my tone will go from reasonable to ridiculous once the cars start hitting our shores and I see them around on the streets.

By the way, do you have an expected delivery date or your order in yet?

BMW needs to take their time.....
  • SMG2 stranded 3 times in my E46 M3
  • SMG3 has standed many M5 owners
Let them sort it out.....
