Hey everyone,

I am going to replace my clutch and I was wondering what 3rd party out there is good? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Stock and spec.. if you do have a 08 then its gonna be rough.... bmw no longer sells the clutch for that flywheel so you have to buy the new flywheel(1500$) then the cost for the clutch(500$)

Spec offers a kit with a clutch and flywheel for like 1690$

I believe you can get a nice replacement and possibly somewhat cheaper if you shop around from Luk. I believe they even may make the stock clutches for BMW, but don't hold me to that.

I believe the Luk flywheel part number is #DMF148. I think it can be had for about half the price of the BMW flywheel and it is dual mass. Double check the part number. On Luk's site it mentions replacement with part number DMF128 - yet when you click in for more details, it list it as DMF148. Rockauto and amazon both carry DMF148.

I don't know if the M3 is the same, but the flywheel for N52 cars is serviceable for 2 clutches. I bought my 330i 5 years ago with 50k miles on it, and the prev owner clearly didn't know how to drive a stick real well because I had to put a clutch in it around 80k. Now at 152,000 miles the second clutch still feels like new, I shouldn't have to replace it for at least another 100k the way I drive.

It's not an issue whether the flywheel could last for two clutches or not. The issue is that the M3 clutch grew in size from 2008 to 2009 and therefore, so did the flywheel. Unfortunately, the old clutch is no longer made and the two items need to be updated as a set.
