It wasnt like this when I was 12...

My eldest lad is 12 next month and has asked to do a Red Letter driving day.

Turns out for £100 12 year olds and upwards can do a track day with instruction in a Mini Cooper on track and then, get this, 10 minutes in a Ferrari, Lambo or Aston round the track. This is driving the car!!

Some of the comments from kids and parents on the red letter days site are priceless, one reads "I couldnt believe it when my 12 year old hurtled past at 85mph in a Ferrari".

Im booking it for him.

Wish I was 12 again.

My how times have changed.. and i was 12 only 10 year ago. Well, your a cool dad, i'll give you that.. but isnt that just crazy? (forgive me, just my .02). Do 12 year old's have the mental capacity to be able to control a car of that magnitude? I mean, im sure its insured, but doesnt that sound a little crazy? MAYBE at 16 years old would seem alot more reasonable, but 12? My uncle has 3 Ferrari's ('76 308 gtb, '03, '09 f430) and currently on order for the 458 Italia. I work with him everyday. I am 22 years old. When i ask to drive any of them, he tells me that someone my age has no business thinking about driving ferrari's, instead i should be thinking on how i can ONE DAY afford my own ferrari. again, dont mean to be harsh, just my .02. Happy bday to your son.

That's pretty sweet good way to get them into motorsport outside of shifter kart racing if you can't afford it or just don't want them to get hurt

Wonderful. But I have no earthly idea how - given insurance etc - this is profitable at GBP 100!

Lucky lad!

By 12 I had been that far south I had an Australian accent. The girls in Brighouse (where I was brought up) in Yorkshire were clearly more accomodating.

I went elsewhere to find a wife put it that way.

Thats pretty cheap. I wonder if those cars are modded with a brake in the passenger footwell so instructor can stop the car if the kids get a bit crazy.

As far as I know there is nothing like that in the US.
