During my time off I usually eat lunch at home, if I go out, try to keep it under 6$ with tax. Never buy the 2$ sodas or water, bring my own or drink tap water.
I'm curious as to where you guys work at that provide all the meals free of cost. Usually only the big tech companies like Google can provide such things. There are a couple members on here that have meals provided for free. That's pretty cool.

^ most fast food places let you eat for free, and restaurant servers get 50% off

My grandfather used to ask me if I walked to school or packed my lunch. Basically meaning, if you packed...you lived far away.

Digress...I eat out every day. As said above, I avoid the $2.00 pop bit and drink water. Usually try to keep it around $8 or $9 with an occasional splurge in the $15+ range.

at least in the trading world... most HFT firms provide food service for their employees as nice perk Also keeps you watching your trades and not roaming around for lunch

That's true. From what I understand too those companies (including ones such as Google) provide all those perks to basically keep you at work. They do that so their employees have no reason to go home. It's like their second home.

I def pack lunch. I read financial articles going on ways to cut wasteful spending and going out to lunch during work was one. So I stuck with bringing my lunch. I only usually eat like a tuna sandwich or something similar and a fruit. Staying healthy and saving money.

Always go out for lunch.
Lunch is a huge social/networking part of the workday.
If I was worried about $20/day I would be driving a Prius.

We have a fridge at work. i just buy bread, lettuce, a tomato and lunch meat and leave it at the office so I can make a sandwich. No way I could pack every day.

I usually pack lunch but recently started eating out more and more, since I work in downtown, there are a lot of options. This thread has inspired me to start packing again. If only my boss would buy a freakin' microwave life would be so much easier.. my only option is a sandwich.

Rarely pack lunch and rarely pay for lunch... Usually have vendors that come in to take me out... and if by chance one of them isn't around, I go to the gym.

That's kinda harsh.... I sincerely do not wish to start a dick measuring contest, but i'm pretty sure my car costs more than yours and I still pack 2 lunches a day to avoid spending $20 bucks a day.
I think the OP brought up this conversation to discuss the "practicality" of packing lunch and or buying lunch.... not to see who can afford to drive what.... just saying...
